The design includes wood shelves with live edges to bring in some of the raw beauty of nature into the space, while the straight, clean lines of the cabinets and shelves add modern flair to this stylish kitchen.
Vintage and Modern Details Blend to Create Unique, Authentic Farmhouse Kitchen Design
Although designers from America's Most Desperate Kitchens wanted to create an authentic looking farmhouse kitchen, they also wanted to give the homeowners lots of modern luxuries, so they combined vintage inspired features, like the mint refrigerator and mixer and large print tile floor, with modern cabinets and countertops, creating a durable, elegant space.
Colors and Design Elements Blend Natural Elements with Elements of Modern Design
This beautiful, eco modern kitchen is the focal point for the house. With natural elements, such as the live edge wood shelving, the natural green and yellow of the walls and the wood trim around the doors and windows, and the modern touches like the clean lines and smooth edges of the cabinets and the countertop, this design perfectly encompasses the homeowners' desire for a kitchen that reflects their love for nature as well as their attraction to the modern design style.
To add a modern twist to this rustic kitchen, Joanna added open wood shelving to create a unique display piece above the stove in the kitchen. The stove itself is elegant, almost seamlessly blending in to the custom marble countertop, while the ventahood and pot filler blend into the gray subway tile backsplash. As seen on Fixer Upper.

Large tan marble cracks add personality against the solid, smooth surfaces in this midcentury modern kitchen. Stainless steel barstools with cream seats create a stylish eat-in space at the bar. Built in woodgrain shelving continues into the kitchen cabinets. The woodgrain refrigerator doors match the cabinets allowing it to blend into the design.
In the sitting room, Chip and Joanna, hosts of HGTV's hit show Fixer Upper, blended a modern design with industrial details to create this unique space. The wainscoting was removed in the space and the walls were painted a warm beige, while modern slate floors, a clean, white sofa and simple, linen curtains finish the modern design. To bring stylish storage into the space, Joanna added industrial cabinets and shelving to complete the room.

Appliances in Tudor Kitchen are Concealed to Blend in With Updated Cabinets
To update the outdated kitchen, designers added new cabinets that were more functional and modern, but still remained true to the historic home's Tudor design. They then concealed the kitchen's major appliances with wood panels that made them blend in with the cabinets, creating a seamless design that is modernized, but still nods to the home's past design.
A large kitchen island divides this renovated home's open living space and provides a clean-lined surface for dining and food prep. The design team removed downstairs walls to create an open-concept kitchen, dining and living area, exposing wood ceiling beams and adding unusual materials to create a space that blends rustic, industrial and modern elements.

This transitional kitchen blends the best of traditional familiarity with modern sophistication to create a comfortable, livable space.
