Two-Car Garage Converted Into Efficient Studio Apartment
This converted 1920s garage doubles as apartment space for visiting guests as well as a workspace for the owner. Much of the space, including door hardware and the concrete flooring, were left as-is, but the termite-damaged door frames had to be replaced.

Genevieve Gorder designed her dressing area with an elegant chandelier, doors imported from Morocco and plenty of shelves for clothes and shoes. A large mirrored island reflects the light from a sparkling chandelier throughout the plum-colored space, as seen on HGTV's "Genevieve's Renovation."

This basement was transformed into the perfect gathering spot for movie nights and kid-friendly crafting. The colorful mirror on the wall is made out of paint cans. And the bright rug is durable commercial FLOR rug tiles.

The designers kept the original 1920s Spanish tile floors and gave the wood paneling a light whitewash to brighten up the room. The subtle pattern and texture from the sofa mesh with the pattern on the ottoman complement the original flooring without overwhelming it.

When transforming a spare bedroom into a glamorous dressing room, designer Nicole Norris, ASID, NCIDQ, turned the double-door reach-in closet into a custom-designed shoe display alcove with 1/2" thick glass shelves. Luxurious patterned carpeting, gold shimmering wallpaper and neutral furnishings balance out the bright pink shelving. Details such as a gilded tri-fold mirror add a touch of glamour to the space. Since the room was so large, several ready-made furniture pieces were added in addition to the custom shelving.
