Dining Room Design Blends Heavy, Dark Lines With Curves of Light Fixture
Black-framed chairs mimic the dark trim of the windows and sliding door, creating a cohesive look in this updated midcentury modern dining room. The curved lines of the dramatic light fixture and funky candle holders help soften these heavy lines.
Existing Fireplace Gets Low-Cost Update With White Paint, New Mantel
The existing fireplace in this midcentury modern home was given a fresh update by painting the dull brown brick surround a bright, light-reflecting white -- an easy, low-cost update. A wooden mantel was added, making the space look fresh and modern without replacing the entire fireplace.
Cozy Midcentury Modern Living Room With Two-Sided Fireplace
Large floor-to-ceiling windows provide an immense amount of light to this cozy, midcentury modern living room. Black leather armchairs with matching ottomans circle around the two-sided fireplace, which features a collection of art with Southwestern flair. A white shag rug and yellow throw add extra coziness to the space.
The California home marries modern and midcentury design for a simple and functional yet beautiful entertaining space. Neutral colors and layered lighting make it easy to transform the mood for whatever occasion may arise.
Whitewashed exposed wood beams give this living room a lofty, airy feel. Two sofas create the look of a sectional, but with more versatility. Floor poufs sit in front of the white brick fireplace to be used as extra seating or a foot rest.
This living room needed a whole lot of style and a better use of space from its original 1950's look. The walls were opened up to give it a more social and inviting feel while connecting it to the kitchen. By raising the ceiling and getting rid of funky, low archways, adding new floors and brightening up the space with white paint this living room was transformed into a stylish, serene and mid-century modern pad.
Just down the hall sits a formal dining room steeped in midcentury modern style, with a Sputnik light fixture and large square table. Blue armchairs anchor either side of the room and echo the hues in the framed artwork.
Incorporating bold abstract art and large-scale geometric patterns helped achieve a unique and retro look in this living room. Yellow throw pillows add bright color, while a thick-striped rug adds bold pattern. Unique tables complete the funky, fresh decor.

Retro White Living Room With Bold Geometric Patterns
The white walls of this midcentury modern living room are livened with patterns and color in the furniture and decor. A striped rug complements the coloring of the patterned armchairs. Chevron and solid throw pillows and a set of sleek drawers add bursts of yellow color to the room.
Mid-Century Modern Dining Room With Floating Buffet
A minimalist home is both stylish and warm. Mid-century modern dining table is paired with sleek Eames tripod chairs, while a floating blue buffet provides much-needed storage yet maintains the open atmosphere of the home.
This gray and white midcentury living room has an open beam ceiling that gradually slopes down to outer glass walls. Furnishings are kept spare but striking: a gray leather sectional, lime green chair and vibrant wavy striped rug.
“I find the majority of my vintage pieces at thrift stores,” says designer Tasha Schultz, who created this inviting midcentury-influenced living room. “I always have a running list of things I am on the hunt for and dimensions (if need be). Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find something at your first stop, vintage hunting requires patience and perseverance!”
A graphic blue rug covers the floor space and adds visual interest to the living room. Midcentury modern furnishings create an elegant space to gather with friends and family before and/or after dinner.
Taking a left past the kitchen leads guests right into the dining room. Here, another midcentury buffet displays the family's favorite items, with geometric prints and teal accents adding period-appropriate color and charm.
