Just a little bit of brown can go a long way in a living room’s design. Cocoa brown and soft pastels are pretty accents in this living room that’s grounded by white walls. Designer Mariah O’Brien loves using white as a backdrop for a room with a variety of other elements like rich shades. “The white really makes an impact, as it’s a perfect backdrop for the other design elements we brought into the living experience," O'Brien says. Cocoa chairs and curtains add just a touch of brown to a room filled with pretty pastels.

Wood-Paneled Library in Mediterranean-Style Estate
Period details abound in this two-story, wood-paneled library, part of a 3.5-acre Mediterranean-style estate located in the heart of Beverly Hills. Known as The Beverly House, the property was designed by Gordon Kaufmann and built in 1927. In this library, the design of the sculpted, cathedral-height ceiling mirrors the pattern of the custom carpet underfoot. Carved panels lend architectural detail and visual interest to every inch of the massive space, while warm wood tones, a crackling fireplace and accent lighting lend coziness and warmth.
Mediterranean Open Plan Living Room With Exposed Beam Vaulted Ceiling
A vaulted ceiling with exposed beams gives this living room a spacious appearance. Colorful pillows accent the brown leather sofa, while a sisal rug adds a bit of texture. The open floor plan allows room for a bar area complete with stools and glass pendant lights.
