Bright, Modern Living Room Highlights Dramatic Ceiling Height
Dramatic fireplace detail and sculptural rings emphasize the height of this two-story living room. During a renovation of the home, the stairs were repositioned along the side wall, which allowed a new opening between the room and the adjacent kitchen and encouraged movement of light and views through the two spaces.
Transitional Living Room With Teal Wingback Chairs
Natural light illuminates this transitional living room with a lucite coffee table and gray area rug. Teal velvet wingback chairs add a pop of color, while a white exposed beam vaulted ceiling gives the space an open look. White curtains frame a set of doors that lead to the outdoor patio.
A stunning wall of windows keeps this modern living space bright and airy, with double-sided floating TVs installed above the contemporary gas fireplace, neutral sofa, chaise lounge and glass coffee table.
Red is consistently used throughout this space to break up the room while also tying it together. The bright red contrasts the white walls and sofa, and bare hardwood floor, but it also unifies the space with a common color.
The rear side of a boxy, modern garage forms a unique platform for an outdoor living room. A modern fire pit and comfortable seating create a cozy spot to relax, and whimsical artwork mirrors the sky at night.
Instead of buying all-new furniture to create a calm coastal environment in her living room, designer Lori Rourk transformed her existing furniture. "All of this furniture in its existing state was very dark and gloomy. I loved the lines of all of these pieces, so instead of buying new, I would recreate my vision to be light and airy," Rourk says.
This coastal living room sitting area features a variety of elements for a one-of-a-kind look. The dark antique chair anchors the room while light linens and white walls provide an airy, beach-home feel.
Eclectic White Living Room With Magenta Velvet Chairs
Vibrant jewel-toned velvet chairs pop against the all-white trim, walls and built-in bookshelf. Gold floor lamps make for a luxe pairing with magenta armchairs. Without curtains, natural light flows in freely through the windows reflecting off all the white surfaces to brighten the space even more.
Traditional architecture and contemporary furniture and accessories come together in this sunny transitional living room. A coral side table and throw provide vibrant bursts of color in the mostly neutral space.
Formal Living Room Showcases Coffered Ceilings, Classic Fireplace
Because bold patterns abound in this formal living room -- from the contemporary artwork to the armchairs and area rug -- a *lack* of it overhead calls attention to the coffered ceilings. In turn, when guests are seated around the coffee table, they won't be able to take their eyes off this treatment.
Rustic Details in White Living Room With Contemporary Sitting Area and Gas Fireplace
A gas fireplace saves space and is safer for the home's littlest occupants. The sliding barn door opens up the wall between the living room and master bedroom, creating a more natural route into the couple's personal space. A rustic American flag and cozy seating space create a warm feel in the living room.
When punk rock style meets craftsman architecture, the saucy design spawn is definitely something to write home about. So visitors take note: this edgy and eclectic interior by designer Caitlin Murray is in a league of its own.
