The design in the living room was kept elegant and simple so as to complement the large space, rather than compete with it. Large sliding glass doors allow in plenty of natural light, while the bookshelves add elegant display spaces. To complement the light walls, designers created a custom patina to paint onto the floor rather than staining it.
This neutral transitional living room takes a turn for the unexpected by placing decorations in and around the fireplace. Candles fill the fireplace while a mirror on the wall hangs in place of a television.
Gorgeous, Neutral Living Room With Old World Influence
Contemporary design blends with Old World architecture to create this spacious and beautiful living room. Neutral stone walls and floors connect the indoors with the outdoors. A pair of houseplants nod to the home's desert setting.
For this renovation, Joanna and Chip were able to come up with a floor-plan and a decorating scheme that effectively merged elements of two basic styles to create an updated coastal feel with rustic accents. "The goal here," said Chip, "is we want the Jacksons to feel like they're on vacation every single day."

Matching Console Tables Add Symmetry to Modern Farmhouse Living Room
To give the room's design a bit of symmetry, designers added identical black, console tables, art, table lamps and geometric sculptures to either side of the fireplace. The table lamps have the rustic "X" design in them that nod to the countertop design in the kitchen.
Colorful Cottage Living Room With Patterned Green Sofa, Double Upholstered Coffee Tables and Striped Throw Pillows
A white wall sets a clean background for the colorful furniture in this living room. A green sofa with white zig zig pattern is decorated with striped black and white pillows and a long decorative pillow in the center. A pair of upholstered coffee tables feature a bright blue hue with fun, floral design. The versatile pieces also work as extra seating and ottomans.
Transitional Living Room With Beige Armchairs and Ghost Table
In an open floor plan, where walls are not in place, make sure the flow of the room makes sense. A pair of small armchairs and ghost end table visually divide the living room from the dining area without completely blocking the line of sight. Ivory tufted ottomans next to the armchairs help define the sitting area beneath a gray drum shade chandelier.
