Awkward Hallway Space Transformed Into Cozy Reading Nook
A small space with an awkward transition between a hallway and formal living room is put to use as a cozy reading nook. Though the chaise and bookcase are modern in nature, the leather upholstery and crown molding-style trim help keep the space traditional enough to fit the adjacent room. The cowhide rug adds extra coziness, making this a perfect spot to curl up with a great book.
Here's a fresh twist on the stodgy library: The bookcase was customized to fit around the pale gray settee, then filled with colorful books and accessories. The room is a perfect example of the rule the designers used throughout the home: Neutral building materials only, then color layered in for a firework finish.
Designer Tiffany Brooks turned a space originally planned as the breakfast area off the kitchen into this handsome library with gray walls that offers a break from the hustle and bustle of the main living spaces in the home.
Library With Built-in Wood Shelves, Brown Leather Sofa & Neutral Armchair
Traditional library colors and materials -- such as the wood built-in shelves and the brown leather sofa -- are placed in this space that is anything but traditional. A funky, southwest-inspired rug brings red, blue and green hues into the room, and a beautiful painting echoes those colors. Accents placed on the shelves add a personal touch to the library, which also features simple but intriguing small tables plus an additional chair for reading or lounging.
The library includes deck mounted solar powered skylights with light-filtering single pleated blinds that bring fresh air and natural light into the space, that can be controlled through a smartphone app.
Blue and Pink Transitional Library With Striped Curtains
Blue and pink are a surprisingly grown-up combination in this handsome library, in part because of the room's sophisticated details: a plush Oriental rug, tailored armchairs, a delicate coffee table. Stripes on the curtains are a hint of a jaunty nautical touch.
Sophisticated Library With Silver Sunburst Mirror and Custom Nailhead Trim Table
This corner is accented by a custom upholstered table and sparkling accessories. The silver mirror, lamp base and candelabra shine against the soft gray palette. The ottoman is stored under the table until it is needed.
Neutral Transitional Library With Wood-Paneled Walls
Dark gray paneled walls surround this transitional library, creating a cozy, comfortable space. A leather nail-head-studded sofa is flanked by two pivoting sconces and rough iron bookshelves for study necessities. A large framed art piece behind the sofa adds a pop of color to the space's neutral palette.
In this transitional library, the designer blends a mix of rich fabrics. A blue corduroy chair sits in front of the window with a watered silk and white sheer curtain, as well as a blue fabric window shade with beads.
