The Influence of Travel
An extended four-week stay in Costa Rica really taught the Williamsons the value of living with less. "I tried to purge and get rid of stuff when people have so little in Costa Rica" says Allison of the influence her family's travels there had on their lifestyle. Instead, the Williamsons treasure family heirlooms, art and objects that bring meaning and beauty to their lives.
Eclectic Master Bedroom With Industrial Nightstand
Though neutral, the master bedroom still manages to be quite colorful -- bright yellow and blue artwork adds a splash to the walls, while striped bedding offers even more interest. Notice the nightstand, too, which brings an industrial touch to the room.
Eclectic Living Room With Mid-Century Modern Egg Chairs
Mid-Century modern egg chairs flanked by tall patterned drapes utilize the natural light to create an inviting space in the curved turret window of this Victorian-style home. The Hollywood-style floor lamp, rustic coffee table and assorted eclectic accents provide a fun yet sophisticated environment.
This kid's bedroom, from HGTV Green Home 2102, features twin beds dressed in green and white organic cotton linens. A layering of textures and fabric patterns, like the zigzag headboards, suits both children and discriminating house guests. A cozy loft is situated above the beds; a wooden ladder provides a treehouse-like entrance, while a clever bucket and pulley system keeps the space stocked with treats and supplies.
Eclectic Living Area Showcases Vibrant Primary Colors
The goal for this long, rectangular space was to create multiple seating areas for various uses: an open entry area, a central formal seating area for entertaining and a more casual TV-watching area for the family near the rear. Bold artwork and furniture upholstered in vibrant primary colors invigorate the neutral space.
Eclectic Living Area Features Crisp White Armchairs
A stately distressed column creates a striking juxtaposition paired with clean, contemporary white armchairs in this eclectic living area. The patterned area rug grounds the space and adds a splash of color.
When the owner of a run-down, century-old row house near D.C.'s Union Market asked Kerra Michele Huerta to help renovate their space, the designer leapt at the chance to get creative. After the construction crew dug out the basement to create a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment with a full kitchen for guests, Huerta stepped into the entryway and used remnants of unsalvageable pine floors to design a "welcome mat" inlay in the new foyer. The coat rack was repurposed too; though it seems right at home next to the bright red art, it's actually comprised of old pipes.
Neutral Eclectic Coastal Living Room With Glass Table Lamp
Layering textures, patterns and complementing colors give this living room a collected, lived-in feel. African necklaces hang around the neck of a glass table lamp as a unique way to display meaningful objects that also keep with the room's eclectic coastal style.
Headboards can define a bedroom and in this case the artwork of Italian Renaissance painter Dosso Dossi behind the wooden platform bed creates a bold statement. The white bed linens and faux fur throw create a neutral base for the colorful art.
