“We have a very large back patio, and we have a seating area there and a large dining area with an umbrella,” says HGTV Dream Home 2015 designer Linda Woodrum. “It’s just a very peaceful, private outside space that’s comfortable, inviting and another place to live.”
This Cape Cod home's outdoor areas incorporate lots of stately brick details, crisply contrasted by bright white. The driveway, seen here, uses the same paver-plus-grass layout as found in the backyard's patios.
This sprawling home on West Falmouth, Massachusetts' Chapoquoit Island features a half acre of rolling, manicured lawn with lush New England landscaping. The home's peaked gables and shingle siding are hallmarks of the Cape Cod style. Every room in the 4,400-square-foot home features views of the water.
Traditional sconces placed between each doorway light up the space for late-night get-togethers on the HGTV Dream Home 2015 back patio. Beautiful glass doors allow the interior lights to shine through.
The home draws inspiration from traditional Cape Cod architecture with a few twists of its own. The stacked stone veneer adds a rustic element to the facade, while decorative window trim makes up for the absence of shutters.
Window boxes add a lively arrangement of color to the cedar siding. “The window boxes are very much a part of the Vineyard experience, and pertain to what is happening in each room so you look out and they are color coordinated,” explains interior designer Linda Woodrum.
