Hallway With Modern Art, Funky Black Pendant Lights & Arched Doorways
A gallery featuring pieces from the owner's art collection accentuates a downstairs hallway. Arched entryways give the space a feeling of grandeur, while funky black pendant lights echo the artist's creativity. White walls, ceilings and carpet create a backdrop that lets the art and lights be the stars.
Bright White Kitchen is Sophisticated, Transitional
A soothing color story creates a clean, family-friendly kitchen that's truly the heart of the home. Clean white cabinets are clad in granite countertops with radiant edges. A tile backsplash adds a metallic sheen and glamorous touch to the space.
A gorgeous marble backsplash and countertops makes a bold statement in this chic, contemporary kitchen. The soft gray island is full of much-needed storage, while a elegant chandelier brings a touch of glam to the space.
Open Concept Floor Plan Seamlessly Blends Kitchen and Dining Room Spaces
Before Brio Interior Designs renovated this couple's space, their home felt closed in. The rooms were small, and the house was dysfunctional and did not flow. However, the designers knocked down several walls, opening up the floor plan and adding functionality and flow. Thanks to the new open floor plan, the kitchen and dining room are seamlessly blended to give the space an elegant, appealing look.
Contemporary Kitchen With Freestanding Island and Floral Wallpaper
A center island is number one on many kitchen renovators’ wishlists, but a large, built-in island doesn’t always fit the budget or the space. No matter, freestanding islands perform the same functions, adding counter prep space and storage, but usually require less floor space and cash — as designer Liz Miller found in her own home. “The freestanding island was a must in a small kitchen with two little kids. When we need more space, to say, have an impromptu dance party, or when we have friends over, we just push the island against the side wall to open up the room,” she says.
Because the living room features different styles of furniture, TerraCotta Design Build used colorful accents to create cohesion. For example, the patterned rug speaks to the the blue armchairs, while a pillow covered in faux-cowhide complements the ottomans.
Texture makes all the difference in the kitchen: Cabinets are gunmetal gray with silver pulls. The backsplash consists of tiny mosaic tiles that beg to be touched and look stunning against the marble countertop. There's even a wooden bird friend.
Contemporary Walk-In Master Closet With Island and Built-In Shelves
This spacious walk-in master closet has a boutique-like feel thanks to a central island, a wall of built-in shelves and even a custom display area for sunglasses. The white palette allows the displays and clothing, shoes and accessories within to truly shine.
Vaulted Living Space, Sunken Floors Maximize Tall Space
The generous height of the main level of this Bolinas, Calif., farm house is maximized by tucking the kitchen beneath a vaulted living area. The floor in the kitchen and bar area is sunken to make the space feel larger.
