Contemporary Art Meets Italianate Architecture in Venice Biennale Inspired Courtyard
In the courtyard gallery garden at the 2016 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, landscape designer Megan Van Linda pays homage to the Venice Biennale, the biennial, internationally acclaimed exhibition of contemporary art in Italy. A custom mural by San Francisco artist The Apexer and a modern lounger add contemporary flair to the Italianate architecture of the home.
Colorful Eclectic Courtyard With Copper Water Feature
A water feature is the focal point at the center of this fun and eclectic backyard hangout. A wood structure lined with metal screening encloses spaces to dine, relax and otherwise entertain. Vessels scattered throughout the courtyard hold plantings of various sizes and shapes, bringing life to the space.
Use plants of all sizes as decor. Pick up inexpensive baskets at the thrift store and simply drop some small plants and cacti in the baskets. You can then put the baskets all around your space to bring some lushness and life to your deck.
Director's chairs with white canvas seats make for comfortable, easy seats on the front porch. A black ceramic garden stool acts as the side table and yellow-and-white outdoor fabric pillows brighten the space, welcoming guests.
Small Outdoor Space with Red Adirondack Chairs, Fire Pit and Built-in Bar
Take a corner of your patio and put it to use as an entertaining space. A bar is built in under the kitchen window in this outdoor space with a fire pit by DesignFix, a California interior design company. The bar, which has a red acrylic top, is supported by decorative wood roofing brackets. Rope lighting underneath makes the bar look cool at night, says designer Amanda Giles.
Popularly referred to as "The Flintstone House," this free-form, single-family residence is an iconic landmark in Hillsborough, CA. Built in the late '70s, the eclectic home incorporates a unique series of domes to naturally coincide with the surrounding hillside. At the same time, its bright orange exterior offers a striking visual contrast with the rest of the property.
Eclectic Porch With Mixed Colorful Plant Stands and Brightly Colored Throw Pillows
A mix of plant stands add color and decoration to this bright summer porch. A tall, tile covered stand supports a sphere formed ivy while white, blue and gold stands prop up flowers that add natural color to the space. A white sectional shines against the beige walls and fun throw pillows add accent colors.
Iron benches line a walkway leading to a small outdoor dining area where a large rock flanked by two wrought iron chairs serves as a dining area. Two stone planters on either side of the archway feature ornamental grasses and shrubs.
Eclectic Porch With White Sofa and Bright Throw Pillows
The sitting area clearly demonstrates the color story for the porch: white and neutral base pieces with bright accents. The sectional sofa, wood coffee table and baroque wall mirror bring unexpected indoor sophistication to outdoor living. The pink, red and purple throw pillows pop against the stark white sofa. A geometric light fixture hangs above to provide lighting.
Eclectic Porch Sitting Area With White Furniture & Buddha Statue
A white Buddha statue, among other Asian accents used throughout the space, introduces a Zen mood to this porch sitting area. Beautiful white furniture and sheer white curtains look even brighter against the natural background and neutral floor. Throw pillows add pops of accent color in red, purple and pink, while the pair of metallic tables adds a touch of glam to the design.
Concrete Patio With Wicker Furniture and Colorful, Patterned Throw Pillows
Small wicker stools also work as side tables for serving drinks and snacks. Don’t be afraid to bring some of your indoor decor outside (if weather permits), like this fab small faux fur pillow or this indigenous concrete statue.
Covered Porch Features Blue Adirondack Rocking Chairs
Retractable screens allow the screened-in porch to be open to the fresh air. A wood paneled ceiling extends out to cover the exposed area, which features a pair of bright blue Adirondack rocking chairs and a ceiling fan above to add a light breeze during the hotter months.
