C.B. Conlin Landscaping: Gorgeous Plan for a Georgian Home
C.B. Conlin Landscaping created a thing of beauty in crafting each detail of the outdoor plan for this stately Georgian home that enhances its beauty and setting. Each shrub, plant, flower, stone element and color choice were carefully selected and staged to balance, formalize and contribute to a point of view--a serene, comfortable and inviting place to call home.
Due to the existing terrain, the basement level opens directly on grade. The rear of the home becomes more informal with the octagonal family room and varying roof lines of the bedrooms on the second floor. Just to the left is the poolhouse and pool.
This Chappaqua property, with its strict setback requirements and a 10 to 12-foot drop-off, posed a design challenge, even with four acres to play with. To accommodate the landscape, the home was designed to have two stories in the front and three in the back, allowing for a walkout basement.
The symmetrical entrance and rigidity of a traditional colonial are softened by the shingle style and supplemented by stonework. An angled garage wing responds to the natural contours of a plateau on which the house sits, addressing the natural landscape as well as clients' needs.
Natural materials in earth-tone colors were used to make this house feel at home. Though it is only two-stories on the front facade, the dormers and chimney pots help to elevate an otherwise horizontal structure. The breezeway to the left of the garage allows guests to reach the rear-yard pool without going through the house.
