Contemporary Library With Globe Pendants
For the library, designers created wood, open-backed bookshelves that had the attractive benefit of showing off the exposed brick wall. A leather sofa and ottoman add a hint of Western flair into the eclectic look.
Atlanta designer Virginia Cheek created a unique "resting space" on the Serenbe showhouse's second floor: an office/loft at the top of the stairs that is ideal for cozying up with a good book or catching up on some work without feeling cut off from the life of the house.
Want a clever idea to create cohesion in a room? Turn books (without dust jackets) with pages facing out and spines in on a bookcase for a chic designer look. The stunning marbled wallpaper on the ceiling mimics the end papers in hardbound books and lends drama without making the room too busy.
An atmosphere of eccentric luxury is created in this striking library where wood panels cover the space from floor to ceiling and a red sofa and zebra print rug await visitors in the center of the room.
Glass panels on the staircases blend in seamlessly, becoming nearly invisible, and look less bulky than traditional railing. White walls and a white ceiling, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows, keep the room feeling airy and bright despite the bookshelf wall's hulking presence.
SPG Architects’ Casa Torcida, located in the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica, takes inspiration from the Osa’s natural world. SPG juxtaposed bright, tropical colors against the neutral palette of the building materials. The library’s built-in cabinetry and louvers are made of locally harvested, native species of wood.
Three floor-to-ceiling windows and a crystal chandelier allow for ample light in this contemporary library. Upholstered armchairs and a large area rug in various textures keep the space soft and comfortable.
Bookshelves fill an entire wall in this light-filled, contemporary study with eclectic accents. A pair of cowhide Wassily-style armchairs form a cozy seating nook that's lit for reading by a single pendant. White walls make the art pop, creating a gallery effect.
