The design features two islands: one island is reserved for seating and storage, while the other houses a prep sink and a very special butcher block pedestal that Lauren Levant designed especially for this project. Made from her sketch, a local woodworker created an original butcher block pedestal from a fallen local tree, with a removable chopping block set into it.

This craftsman style home was built in the 1940s and remodeled to preserve the historical character while adding modern amenities. The updated kitchen features Alder cabinetry with glass-front cabinets and an understated backsplash that brings out the warm browns in the wood.
Neutral Craftsman Kitchen with Custom Wood Banquette
The new kitchen is bright and airy with updated lighting, new cabinetry, subway tile backsplash and lots of natural wood. Ben fashioned a custom banquette — a special request by Mackenzie as a feature that would remind her of the home she grew up in. The banquette was constructed from reclaimed wood flooring and the seating was butcher block to tie in with the wood countertops.
