Evening light highlights the warm landscape lighting on this patio. Lights shining up from the succulent garden reflect off the copper wall for a shining accent to the design. A blue and gray striped patio floor creates a light foundation for the calm, asian design featuring dark brown chairs with white cushions.
A wooden boarder extends past the red window perimeters for an Asian-inspired feel to this courtyard area. The red outlines give a pop of color against the softer, neutral yellow of the walls. Bright green leaves from the gardens lining the concrete walkway bring the area to life leading to the home.
Even the fencing is extraordinary -- all Brazilian handcrafted hardwood with bronze detailing. No matter which side of the garden they stand on, guests will enjoy views of the wood, stone paths and ornamental grasses.
The large pergola allows for plenty of shade in this outdoor space, while the lounge area is perfect for those looking to soak up some sun. This outdoor lounge includes plenty of seating and is perfect for large crowds.
French doors open out onto the calm and unique look of this patio with outdoor seating. Dark brown outdoor furniture is topped with white cushions for a soft and inviting finish. A copper wall is a beautiful contrast to the neutral tones and matte finish of the striped floor and retaining wall.
A wall of Devonshire limestone encloses the garden, emulating the shape of a traditional Tansu chest. The treasure within is just as extraordinary, with sculpted pine trees, rare Japanese Maples and a hedge of weeping cherries enlivening the landscape.
A small courtyard separates the driveway from the garden, with a circular entry that exudes serenity. Stone paths guide visitors around various trees and plants, with rocks along the way for sitting and reflecting.
While the original design leaned heavily on Asian-inspired aesthetics, it was also necessary to integrate some indigenous flowering options for the yard's pollinators. The result is a blend of traditional Asian structure and form, with colorful flowers and shrubs.
A raised spa is further enhanced with natural stone boulders, fire elements, a flagstone rock accent wall and raised planters. The fire elements illuminate the pool area and create a dramatic night setting for this backyard space. A waterfall adds visual interest for swimmers.
Large slabs of stone lead from the deck to a pavilion, which was designed to be a sanctuary where the homeowners can relax, recharge and focus their thoughts. This serene outdoor space was also intended to be a home and food source for various pollinators.
Made from northern white-cedar and bamboo, this quiet pavilion beautifully complements its woodland surroundings. A small reflecting pond and lush vegetation all around ensure that the owners will want to sit and enjoy this space for hours.
The largest challenge this project presented can't be seen at first glance, but sits just below the surface of the garden. In order to preserve the reflecting pond and associated eco-systems from washing out, the landscape architects needed to capture the surface water from several surrounding neighbors and divert it underground. The result is an outdoor space that seems effortless, yet is entirely innovative.
A concrete tile path leads over still water to the wood front door of this home. On either side of the pool, built in rectangular planters house palm trees matching the palms planted against the house. Yellow lighting gives the entry area a warm and romantic glow.
Mirrors give the illusion that this quaint Japanese-style garden is much larger. Here, one reflects a stone pathway through a Zen garden. The sparse plantings work as a backdrop rather than a focal point.
During the day, the pavilion's metal roof offers relief from the sun's rays. As they sit on the wood floor below, the owners can dip their feet into the water and listen to the soft sounds of their environment.
