The homeowners wanted a texture-rich space with a simple feel, so designers set out to achieve that goal by using cabinets that were a mix of wood and back painted glass. Black granite was added to the countertops, backsplash and range hood. This creates a sleek, streamlined design for the heart of this sophisticated home.
A sculptural sliding gate serves as the stylish backdrop to dinners enjoyed at the recycled plastic dining table. Matthew Cunningham's design for the courtyard, which includes the gate (made from raw aluminum) and reclaimed granite flooring, won a 2015 Association of Professional Landscape Designers award.
In creating the design of this modern home, the architects chose an L-shaped configuration. The main living areas are up front and more connected to the neighborhood; a two-story private wing is tucked away in back and has its own secluded patio.
