Hyde Evans Design developed an eclectic Mediterranean style by adding dark accents and a stone-look fireplace in this airy white family room. A striped area rug adds interest while softening the neutral tile floors.
Designer Alexa Hampton’s living room, called “Olympia Folly,” exudes neoclassicist style with fabric-draped walls and a ceiling painted by Chuck Fischer to look as if it was tented. She merged rich fabrics and patterns, including animal skin, along with temple artwork, a Klismos chair and even a Roman helmet. The room was in the 2018 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York City.
Large, open archways blend the indoor living room with the patio outside. A rustic stone wall combines with exposed wood beams and earth-toned furniture to create a Mediterranean style. A colorful bookshelf and glass coffee table bring in a touch of contemporary.
Bobbin chairs flank a glass-and-metal coffee table in this Mediterranean-style living room. Exposed beams and an iron chandelier draw the eye upward toward the vaulted ceiling, while a stone fireplace surround rests on the far wall of the neutral space.
Classic Old World style elements fill this living room: ornate mantel, exposed-beam ceiling, traditional area rug and arched doorways. The end result is anything but outdated thanks to a cheery pair of blue sofas and stylish pendant light.
A pair of white, nubby sofas and a fluffy white rug mirror the textured white walls in this living space, which features stunning views of the Mediterranean vista beyond. The home, a three-building villa in the town of Porto Rafael, features a neutral palette and spartan style that keeps the focus on the multitude of openings to the outdoors, allowing the view to become the home's true focal point.
In imagining the look of this living room, the biggest design challenge was its narrow shape and the low windows. Furniture couldn't go up against the walls, as it would block windows and doorways. The solution: Use the rug to center furniture in the middle of the space.
White furniture and a rug keep the stone wall of this grand living room from feeling too imposing. The color also reflects the sunlight streaming in from the tall arched windows, further brightening the space.
The home's front door leads into this light-filled room, part foyer, part living room. Modern furniture brings a contemporary feel to the space, though the home's elegant Mediterranean details are still on full display.
