Originally, the wood-paneled stairwell leading up to this attic was extremely dark and dingy. Horizontal slats of whitewashed pine lighten up the stairwell and the attic walls, turning the space into a refreshing yoga studio. Now the stairwell wall serves as the central divider between the area designated for yoga sessions and the space meant for desk work.
This embellished yoga mat is pretty enough to leave out as a dorm room accent when it's not in use for morning stretches. Recreate the look by creating stripes using medium-width painter's tape, then coloring in the exposed space with a gold paint marker. Seal with waterproof sealer and let dry completely before using.
In order to keep stretching and yoga routines comfortable, the flooring is outfitted with an extra-cushy lightweight wool rug in a cool, calming shade of blue. For extra comfort, yoga mats are layered on top of the rug.
To connect the first floor and second floor spaces, designers added a colorful, geometric wall covering that runs floor to ceiling. This gives each space a pop of color, making them bright and energizing-perfect for a workout space.
To highlight the color in the space, designers used a neutral color palette to anchor the space and help reflect the natural light from the windows. Mirrors were then added to reflect the color and light, making the space look brighter.
As patrons come up the stairs, they are greeted by the sight of a wraparound geometric wall covering highlighted by the natural light that spills through the windows. The colors reflect the light, making the space feel bright, open and inviting.
In the second story of the gym's space, the bright, geometric design covers the walls on all sides of the room. Mirrors in the front of the space reflect the color, making the space feel bright and exciting.
Designers were challenged to create a social hub that was activated through color, so they used a neutral color palette to anchor the space, while the colorful, geometric wall covering that extended throughout the space added a pop of color. Then, to make the narrow room seem larger, mirrors were added to capture the natural light and create the illusion of a larger environment.
