This long master bedroom serves many functions for the homeowners. A fully retractable fourth wall reveals access to the homeowners' semi-private patio; a bed with plush bed linens completes the relaxation space. For a sitting area, designers brought in a gray, Contemporary sofa and clear coffee table to add a place to enjoy a good book, while a wood, Midcentury Modern desk adds an office space to the room.
To create a relaxing, parlor space, designers used white walls to reflect the natural light of the space. To warm the design, a gray sofa and chairs were brought in, along with purple pillows and a purple chair that add vibrant color to the space. A gray and white rug and coffee table help to define this area, while rich wooded, traditional pieces finish the design with a touch of elegance.
Candice Olson, host of HGTV's "Candice Tells All," created this living room that blends style and function. She says, "It's important to know what makes the most sense for your lifestyle and home, so don't choose colors, fabrics or even materials that won't work for your family, children or pets." This living room's rustic wood coffee table, dark upholstered armchair and patterned area rug ensure a family-friendly space.
The entry of this home, which opens into the living room, is defined by a striking wood wall and ceiling. The living room is set off by two gold-leafed coffee tables that work with the gold accents within the space. High ceilings allow for the open second-floor loft, which is visually separated by contrasting trim work.
In this formal, contemporary living room, the texture of the wood-clad fireplace and massive chandelier work together for a dramatic play of light and shadow. Chairs paired on either side of the modern, glass coffee tables bring a pleasing imbalance and added nuance to the space. The gorgeous fireplace is a highlight of the room.
Designer Kerrie Kelly updated this living space with a club-like look using color, texture and modern furnishings. The sitting area, created with four matching accent chairs in yellow and a center coffee table in wood, invites family and guests to gather for good conversation or perhaps a night of games. The cool gray tones of the tray ceiling, industrial light fixtures and whitewashed brick add dimension and contrast against the sleek furnishings.
An expanse of wenge wood plays with the recesses in the drywall to create a voluminous and open airy space with grand geometric elements. Eye-catching pendant lights, hung at assorted heights to create a mobile-like chandelier, are prominent centerpieces hung over assorted seating, from sofas and chairs to a long, leather bench around a chic glass coffee table, ideal for casual conversation or quiet reflection in this peaceful living environment.
Minimal furniture and ample natural lighting in this uniquely shaped living room give it a spacious and light feel. A neutral leather sofa blends beautifully with the white surrounding walls and neutral floor rug. A burnt orange chair cushion, built in wood shelving unit and hardwood flooring adds warm tones to the bright design. A tall, curved floor lamp and guitar pick shaped coffee table add shape to round out the look.
As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It Too, this family room is bright and inviting. With a large sofa and brightly colored bean bags, there is plenty of seating, while the built in cabinets add lots of storage for the family. The yellow accents in the space help to make it bright, while the natural wood coffee table and gray of the sofa warm up the space, making it inviting.
White walls and high ceilings accented by arched entryways set the stage for a multi-layered design moment. The seating is the star in this space with two side chairs upholstered with handira - traditional Moroccan wedding blankets. Behind them a beaded Yoruba Chair showcases a colorful pattern. On the sofa, an Indian Kantha quilt covers the seat cushions accented by Indian block-print pillows. Add to that an ornately carved wooden coffee table, a beautifully decorated fireplace mantle and loads of art and accessories, and you have a perfectly designed desert oasis.
This elaborate sitting room features wall-to-wall wood panels paired with a detailed tin ceiling and soft yellow trim. Oversized pintucked armchairs boast a bold striped pattern, while two dark brown square coffee tables offer room for traditional decor. A bay window and two sets of French doors allow natural light to flood the space.
An outdoor living room features a mix of design elements, from the reclaimed woods on the coffee table and ceiling beams to the clean, contemporary lines of the woven and upholstered seating. The space is sited to take advantage of the sweeping coastal views, and it also opens to the indoors via a wide retractable glass wall that slides into a pocket door. Traditional lanterns light the space, giving a nod to the Mediterranean architecture.
A grand living room utilizes two-story ceilings to create an elegant living space, allowing for stunning windows and a floor plan perfect for large or intimate entertaining. Warm gold accents sparkle though the space and are ignited by two long gold-leafed coffee tables. A light cream porcelain floor resembling wood and a custom area rug work in tandem.
The living room in Jillian's design is bright and clean. With a neutral color on the walls and the sofa, the space gets a bright feel as the light reflects from the large windows in the room. She uses the natural stone and wood of the fireplace and coffee table to warm up the space and give it personality. The family now has a warm, bright space for gathering and entertaining.
"Here contemporary reads as cold. All those severe straight lines, chrome, plastic and Plexiglas could stand to be tempered by a few flowing lines and the use of natural materials like wood and stone," said HGTV's Design Star judge Candice Olson. The contemporary living room showcases a black, triangular chair, a clear, plastic coffee table and white cubicle storage shelving. A gray shag rug adds texture to the smooth lines.
Contemporary-style sofas, upholstered in durable Sunbrella fabric, feature aluminum frames and synthetic wicker bases — both recyclable. Two cube-shaped, industrial-style coffee tables were handcrafted from sustainable wood by carpenter David Brown. The yellow chairs provide a nice contrast against the black and white patterned pillows and add pops of color against the brick floor and accent landscaping wall.
To create a comfortable space in this loft's living area, designer brought in a velvet chair that begs to be lounged in. The bold, blue of the sofa adds color to the space and is warmed by the neutral, modern sling chair and polished wood slice coffee table. To give definition to the space, a neutral rug lies below the furniture and a gallery wall of black and white photographs keeps this living area from spilling over into the loft's other spaces.
The living room needed fun, durable seating to accommodate the family's teenage son and his friends, so designers added a tough, blue sectional and faux green leather ottoman that doubles as a coffee table. To provide display shelves, shelves were built into the half-wall separating the kitchen and dining room from the living room. These shelves are made of dark, rich wood, which, along with the white walls, ties this space into the rest of this family's 1920s Spanish home.
