Designer Geoffrey De Sousa envisioned the Library at the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 being used by an iPad-centric homeowner, whose reading materials are stored in the cloud. The white painted books, which were hand painted by Geoffrey and his team, giving this library a unique look.
Painting the interior back wall of the bookshelf creates beautiful dimension and highlights the arched shape of the shelf. The smooth wood shelving and cabinetry framing is a nice contrast against the white and navy. Thoughtfully placed contemporary decorative pieces finishes the shelf.
This nursery for singer Nick Carter's son features industrial style wooden shelves that are perfect for displaying keepsakes, like baby blocks and framed photos. Underneath is a neutral sofa with decorative throw pillows and a built-in trundle bed. Soft-hued hot air balloon wallpaper provides a fun accent.
Nature takes a front seat in this living room. The pairing of floating wooden shelves next to the white trimmed fireplace and cream walls creates a beautiful palette in which plants and flowers can thrive. Depending on your kitchen layout, use the space above your windows for storage that you don’t need every day. Floating reclaimed wood shelves would well work in these spaces and can be found at home decor stores, for example.

Traditional library colors and materials -- such as the wood built-in shelves and the brown leather sofa -- are placed in this space that is anything but traditional. A funky, southwest-inspired rug brings red, blue and green hues into the room, and a beautiful painting echoes those colors. Accents placed on the shelves add a personal touch to the library, which also features simple but intriguing small tables plus an additional chair for reading or lounging.
A custom table by Donald Judd and shelves made from Baltic birch plywood are statement pieces in the reception area of an industrial live-work loft in New York City. The red chairs also were designed by Judd. The project by Desai Chia Architecture won a 2018 AIA Institute Honor Award for interior architecture.
