A wooden cutting board was selected for this kitchen with the Japanese tradition of wabi-sabi -- or the practice of embracing imperfections. The raw, imperfect accent pieces throughout the home speak to the natural surroundings of the Sonoma County property.
Because the kitchen is so clean and modern, designer Caitlin Murray used wood cutting boards and other natural accent to create a sense of balance. Notice how these pieces bring out the rich hue of the black marble backsplash, too.
White dishes help continue the bright, clean look of the loft onto the kitchen table, while a textured placemat and wood cutting board and bowl bright warmth and texture to the tabletop. A sprig of fresh lavender ties the design together.
Honed marble is prone to stains, so HGTV's Kitchen Cousins created a custom wood chopping block out of 100-year-old flooring salvaged from homes around the area. A burned-on Kitchen Cousins logo adds a custom touch.
