This beautiful retreat celebrates handmade and textural accents. Wood-paneled walls, smooth hardwood floors, a custom wet bar and fireplace create an elegant seating area to unwind at the end of the day.
The location of this house, in the heart of a bustling resort town, demanded that special attention be paid to acoustics. The walls are built with insulated concrete forms: a wall assembly nearly 20 inches thick, comprised of a poured concrete core, continuous from footing to roof, wrapped in insulating foam and topped with cedar planks. These walls provide excellent thermal insulation and an extremely low sound transmission, even in the galley kitchen.
Dark gray paneled walls surround this transitional library, creating a cozy, comfortable space. A leather nail-head-studded sofa is flanked by two pivoting sconces and rough iron bookshelves for study necessities. A large framed art piece behind the sofa adds a pop of color to the space's neutral palette.

Surrounded by white wall paneling, symmetry was used to arrange flanking chairs and the cream sofa in this transitional living room. All furniture is covered in linen in varying shades of creams and grays, while chartreuse and soft lavender are used as accent colors. A large reclaimed-wood coffee table anchors the room, while two burlap sculptural chairs with pivoting wall sconces can be used as reading corners.

Employ simple DIY tricks for upmarket style that saves a pretty penny. Atlanta designer Nancy Keenan took pieces of one-by-six lumber and nailed them into place behind the standalone tub to mimic judges’ paneling, a more expensive architectural detail that can be bought in sheets. After cutting the lumber, nail the pieces onto your wall in squares or rectangles. Paint them all a semi-gloss color to create a stylish accent wall.
As seen on HGTV's Home Town, Hosts Ben and Erin Napier renovated an old sunroom in the Rahaim residence and converted it into a massive kitchen space with lots of light, a painted red wood floor and plenty of counter space.

Furnishings are kept minimal -- a low bed, simple modern chair and teak armoire are all that's needed to complete the room.
