If you can't afford a new farmhouse-style table, the same look can be achieved by mixing salvaged pieces to create your own table. Find an old tabletop, then add old or new spindle legs. If you paint the table and other outdoor furniture all white, it creates a modern and sleek look, says Ili Hidalgo-Nilsson, architect and designer with Terracotta Design Build in Atlanta.
The outdoor dinning and entertaining area of this home uses hedges to create strong lines, creating an outdoor room feel. Modern, red and white outdoor furniture sits on large, square concrete slabs with mature trees overhead and container plants nearby.
Artisan end tables made from reclaimed wood pieces can also be used as organic décor, a plant stand or stool. A large black and white architectural photograph from the Sixties adds modern personality behind the sofa. The den’s windows offer a look at the outdoor patio with pergola.
Walls encase this patio sitting room, but the sunlight streams in from above. Arched panels protruding from the wall give a unique, 3D finish behind a row of small succulents adding natural color to the space. The patio floor is striped powder blue and white under a collection of black patio furniture with white cushions. A single orange throw pillow adds a touch of color and compliments the hue of the retaining walls.
Heat lamps mounted to the white pergola ensure that outdoor dining can be comfortable in many temperatures. A garden lines the border of the porch, adding layers and life to the landscaping. A mix of outdoor contemporary furniture allows for ample seating.
Getaways are all about comfort and here, the lounging begins before guests even get through the door. The white, wood furniture pops against the dark gravel of the driveway and the moody color of the lodge itself. As Pflug says, “The color story here started with the outside of the building. I knew I wanted to paint it a kind of dark, off-black color. It looks so amazing next to the greens of nature. Everything else just came from there.”
A white fence serves as a back wall to this outdoor living space. An area rug, plants and lots of pillows accessorize the space while dark wood outdoor furniture and a built-in white storage bench provide ample seating.
