Turnips graced the Pilgrims’ tables often. Easy to grow and storage friendly, turnips provided a perfect crop for the early settlers. Turnips also were used to help feed livestock in winter. The ‘Purple Top White Globe’ turnip dates to pre-1880.
To put a modern spin on the traditional chandelier and add contrast against the black-painted ceiling, standard flame-style chandelier bulbs were replaced with bright white globes. The clean round lines of the fixture's 12 bulbs are an excellent juxtaposition to its 12 elaborate arms.
The remodeled master bedroom features an exposed beam ceiling with a white globe chandelier. Gray and white linens decorate the wrought iron bed, while a black nightstand is positioned on either side. Recessed lighting illuminates the space.
Two islands in this gourmet kitchen means there's always somewhere to hang out and somewhere to prep masterful meals. The family chef will also love the kitchen's Wolf appliances and Sub-Zero refrigerator; the clean-up crew will adore the two dishwashers!
This bright, white kitchen features a large island with ample counter space for prep and display. Floor-to-ceiling cabinets, including a built-in wine rack, means everything can be concealed and stored to prevent clutter on the counters. Contemporary globe pendant lights hang down above the polished white countertops.
The homeowners use their formal living room to entertain guests, so the designers used the fireplace as a focal point. The light palette lets the metallic globes by artist Jeff Zimmerman shine and large plants add a welcome natural vibrancy to the space.
The redesign of the kitchen made it feel like a breath of fresh air. Hardwood floors are an organic note underfoot while white and pale gray cabinetry is a light, relaxed choice. The room connects to the backyard via large glass doors.
For unique character, the designer included vintage details like the globes above the desk and the brass animals. Like the window seat, this built-in desk is a smart choice for a smaller space, fitting handily into the sloped ceiling alcove.
Being a very narrow kitchen space, the goal was to make the kitchen and dining area as open to each other as possible while adding storage which was created in the wall behind the dining table. A pine picnic table works as a space saver and point of interest in this otherwise white kitchen.
