This two-story foyer features a volcanic stone clad wall which serves as a backdrop to a live edge walnut shelf. Above, the planter is finished with the home's original tongue-and-groove wood that once was on the ceiling.
Materials and color bring a modern feel to this traditional home. A custom walnut coffee table and beige sofa outline the sitting space. Colorful throw pillows top the sofa to liven up the neutral coloring. Cowhide brings in a natural element and color while keeping maintenance low.
Going with a custom walnut butcher-block floating shelf vanity instead of a cabinet-style vanity allows the plumbing fixtures for the sinks to be on display, and reinforces the industrial vibe of the space.
Three long, wooden floating shelves line the kitchen area of the game room and are gorgeously curated with contemporary design pieces that are illuminated with under-shelf lighting. Below, walnut cabinetry provides plenty of storage space for snacks and board games.
A walnut built-in shelf unit with open shelving above and cabinets below pops off the white wall in this modern sitting room. The white walls are also an ideal blank canvas for the large sketches set off by gold frames.
The custom walnut butcher-block floating shelf vanity adds the warmth of wood and makes the stylish bathroom feel open and airy. “It was all about making that space pure white and clean, and allowing the fixtures and the countertop to be the showstoppers,” says build manager Dan Faires.
Look closely at these bookcases and note that they’re built on industrial disc casters, designed to be beautiful and practical office/room dividers. They’re literally colorful, moveable walls. Hanson Hsu of Delta H Design Inc. designed them with both form and function in mind. The shorter, higher shelves hold smaller books, which are lighter. The middle three shelves hold standard-sized binders and/or medium-sized books, while the very tall lower shelves are for large-format art, architecture and photography books, which can be heavy and cumbersome, therefore easier to handle down low. These bookshelves are constructed of walnut and have a frosted Plexiglas backing so the books don’t fall through.
