Blurring the lines between indoors and out, the same slate tile flows from the foyer to the back patio area at the HGTV Dream Home 2014. Two adjoining steel walls of windows overlook the mountain and golf course views behind this vacation getaway.
A dramatic family room in this Dallas, Texas, house features a cathedral ceiling trimmed with wood beams. The height of the room is accentuated by a stone-clad accent wall and fireplace. The room includes a gathering area and breakfast table, and French doors open to the loggia-style patio on the back side of the house.
This two-story foyer features a volcanic stone clad wall which serves as a backdrop to a live edge walnut shelf. Above, the planter is finished with the home's original tongue-and-groove wood that once was on the ceiling.
On the other side of the great room, a plush gray sectional and two brown leather chairs create a stylish sitting area. A stone-clad fireplace anchors the wall, with a built-in unit for wood so the owners never have to go outside for more.
Circled around the patio, a stone retaining wall adds some level of privacy to this outdoor space. Wrought iron furnishings feature plush, neutral cushions to create a cozy environment around the stone clad fireplace.
This project sought to blur the lines between indoors and out. All stone exterior walls feature stone on the interior too. A limited color palette keeps the stone-clad home from looking chaotic or busy.
This fireplace commands all of the attention in this room. An extremely wide firebox allows the entire wall to become a fireplace object that the architect has clad in a textured stone, coarse and shadowed, yet it remains machined like the fireplace opening.
Directly opposite of the fireplace are a set of steps that cascade down to the lower patio where the outdoor kitchen with bar seating and dining area are located. Note that the fireplace wall and the outdoor kitchen are clad in the same dark stone to distinguish them as balancing objects within the space. The remaining walls are clad in a lighter stone to match the home.
Marble, marble everywhere! This luxe master bathroom includes a large walk-in shower whose marble backsplash is an extension of the walls tiled in the same stone. There's also a marble-clad soaking tub.
An impressive feature wall is clad in Norstone stone veneer, and frames an inviting hearth area. The rectangular cut-out fireplace features decorative glass orbs set against a reflective black stone, providing a nice contrast against the rough hewn, neutral-toned wall. Curvilinear, white, architectural lounge chairs complete the space and complement the rigid, linear elements.
