No only does the sleek kitchen island offer a ton of extra counter space, there is also space for several stools that give the family an additional dining option or act as overflow seating for the breakfast nook.
Large Contemporary Kitchen Island Adds Seating and Storage
In this contemporary kitchen, two chandeliers balance the length of the large island and raise the eye upward. The marbled backsplash complements the tan wall and brown island cabinets. Large islands are the ideal space to add much-needed storage as well as a few luxuries. Designer Jennifer Gilmer of Jennifer Gilmer Kitchens & Bath Ltd., included an under-counter beverage refrigerator, deep and shallow drawers, and even an extra prep sink to create a functional and stylish island.
Eat-In Kitchen Island Adds Extra Seating in Modern, Red Kitchen
Not only is there a cozy banquette in this bright, red kitchen, there is also an eat-in island. This space, accented by modern, glass pendant lights and clear, modern barstools, is perfect for casual breakfasts with the family or as extra seating for a larger gathering.
Large Island Adds Counter Space and Seating to Open Concept Kitchen
Designers wanted to ensure that the homeowners did not lose counter space when they opened up the space, so they added a large island in the middle of the room. They painted it gray to add contrast and color to the kitchen and added blue barstools to give the family a casual dining option.
Dual Islands Add Storage and Seating in Renovated Kitchen
As seen on HGTV's Fixer Upper, this newly renovated kitchen has dual islands that add extra seating and storage in the kitchen area. The gray cabinets in the islands match the rest of the lower kitchen cabinets, as does the custom tile countertop. The back of the cabinets, however, are cased in wood planks, helping to bring Joanna's rustic design to life.
Small Kitchen Island Adds Storage and Counter Space to Neutral, Country Kitchen
In the center of this small kitchen, designers brought in an undersized, rustic kitchen island that would add a rich, wood tone to the neutral space as well as contribute storage and counter space to the room's design.
Slender Kitchen Island Adds Storage and Prep Space to Small Kitchen Space
Even though the kitchen space is small, designers wanted to create an open feel without sacrificing functionality, so they added a slender kitchen island with intuitive cabinet design and a long countertop for plenty of storage and prep space.
The addition of the kitchen island helps to create a more functional space by providing counter space as well as a casual seating option for the family. Since the dining room is also connected to the kitchen, the additional seating could also serve as an extension to the existing dining area.
The island in this space gives the kitchen tons of additional functionality. Since the island is so large, it gives the homeowners plenty of extra counter space for meal prep and serving, while the prep sink makes clean up a breeze. There are also deep cabinets on two sides of the island that add storage, while a breakfast bar with seating for four gives the family additional dining options.
This young Nashville family wanted a kitchen that they could live and work in, so designers incorporated a huge kitchen island to suit the family's needs. The countertop is made from durable and easily cleaned honed black pearl granite. Designers customized the thickness of this countertop to be 2.5", adding even more substance and weight to the island. Designers also added durable teal vinyl counter stools to give the neutral kitchen a pop of color.
