The Graham residence after the kitchen renovation by licensed contractor Chip Wade. As part of the renovation, Chip Wade added some personal details including custom welded initials of the homeowners in the seating area around the fireplace. With the addition of a garage door for easy indoor/outdoor access, a custom concrete table and all new appliances, the kitchen area is now perfect for entertaining large groups, as seen on HGTV's Elbow Room.
Just off the kitchen and dining area, the new sitting room has modern slate floors and simple, gray linen window treatments. The home's original wainscoting was removed, modernizing the space, and the walls were painted a warm beige. To add contrast to the room, Joanna brought in bright yellow pillows and shiny, metallic lamps and tables, while a white picket gate with the work "family" attached to it hangs above the cozy, white sofa, softening the space.

Patterned curtains frame the tree on either side, providing symmetry during the day and privacy at night. Because they hang higher than the window, these treatments elongate the sitting room and make it seem larger.
A quaint corner sitting area behind the sofa is illuminated by the open window directly behind. Instead of leaving the space naked and functionless, putting a chair and some simple art on the wall lends some interest.
Cream-Colored Cabinet Offers Storage in Sitting Room
Though small, this cabinet makes a big difference for the sitting area; it keeps DVDs and games neatly tucked away, as well as becomes a stand for table lamps. Thanks to its gold pulls, the feature ties the room together, too.
This combined kitchen, living space and dining room are perfectly coordinated in this coastal design theme.
Subtle periwinkles, blues and seaglass tones dominate the space, even repeating the seaglass color on the island lighting, which was painted to match the color palette in the space and bring in a pop of color in the island area. Warm, toasty white oak shiplap was chosen to balance the practical floor tile that would take all the abuse from kid traffic.
In the spirit of British Colonial style, this property includes a series of "outdoor rooms," or spaces that are defined by walls of palm trees and other native plants. This wood pergola marks the entrance to one such space, with a bench at the end for quiet reflection.
Cozy Transitional California Sitting Room With Graphic Wallpaper
A sitting room off the kitchen in this Hollywood home features a graphic black-and-white wall that anchors the space and adds to its intimacy. A large, round, tufted ottoman offers style and flexible seating. An antique cabinet with midcentury lines provides space for modern media storage.
The layout of this pretty home's main floor is large enough to encompass a sitting area adjacent to the kitchen. Sliding glass doors pull back to connect the interior with the adjacent patio, a nice perk for entertaining.
Much of the home's main living quarters have an open concept design broken up by a charming red brick chimney with fireplaces on either side. Here, that's demonstrated with a sitting room and the kitchen.
Although often described as unusable space, underneath the stairs can be used as storage, or even a bathroom. Instead of carving into valuable kitchen square footage, a powder room finds its place under the stairs and out of the way.
This simple mudroom area by Lakeshore Designs takes advantage of an awkward kitchen niche and draws the eye to what otherwise would have been dead space. It's small, but there's plenty of room to sit and tug off boots or transfer items between purses. As a bonus, it can double as a place for guests to perch and chat with the cook.
Two ornately decorated coffee tables are the centerpiece of this contemporary Victorian sitting room. Neutral colors offset the highly decorative room, filled with bouquets of flowers and carved candle holders, to offer a more contemporary take on Victorian design.
