"Traditional Georgian architecture is more what people are looking for," in Savannah homes says Hallett & Co. owner Matthew Hallett whose company supervised the purchase, restoration and furnishing of this 1957 ranch home.
For Cynthia Moreno, the West Hollywood-based creative behind Hot Pink Pineapples, cane means warmth and texture without bulk or heaviness. “The natural fibers really pop with light colors, specifically pastels,” Cyn tells HGTV.com. A trip to Byron Bay, Australia last year inspired her blush dining room, which plays host to Joybird’s Florence Sideboard. “[Natural fibers against neutral colors] creates this modern island vibe that’s light, subtle and clean," she says.
Modern Spacious White Mudroom With Red Brick Flooring
Brick floors in mudrooms and entryways are great at handling whatever dirt and mud your kids track in — not to mention dirt is also way less obvious on brick than it is on rugs and other flooring. Designed by Bria Hammel Interiors.
Cane back chairs, touches of blush and all that creamy color? This simple, elegant dining room may be the best in the house. Amy added a vintage crystal chandelier from Facebook Marketplace and, most recently, new dining chairs. The best part is she gave her fireplace surround a $10 makeover using chalk paint, and it’s so cute.
This design vignette in HGTV Dream Home 2013 commands attention for its thoughtful use of reclaimed materials and shiny surfaces. A floating shelf crafted by carpenter David Brown makes use of weathered, reclaimed fencing.
Yellow and white make a lovely color combination for this master bedroom and adjoining sitting area. The casually draped window treatments are a perfect complement with the more formal barrel chairs and coral pedestal table for a slightly romantic look and feel.
Recycling is a cornerstone of Atlanta homeowners Helene Ross and Eric Connolly's lives. The couple actually live next door with their five rescue dogs and three cats. But this historic West End bungalow is their latest pet project, an upcycled marvel that had been in serious disrepair which they refurbished themselves. "It was the problem house of the neighborhood" says Eric. The couple used salvaged goods from the local Lifecycle Building Center to bring their project in without spending a fortune. A high-end non-profit salvage yard with a mission of rescuing historical elements and keeping them out of landfills, Lifecycle rescues appliances, millwork, doors and anything else you can think of from properties that homeowners can then purchase at a deep discount. A number of businesses and film productions also rely on Lifecycle for vintage design elements and there is always the chance that the vintage wooden door or mantel they pick up made a cameo in a Hollywood film production.
Beautiful Kitchen Island With a Marble Top and Gold Pendants
This stunning kitchen inside a Cape Cod-style home in Malibu, CA, features white cabinetry with bold, black hardware, an expansive kitchen island with a mismatched marble top and gold pendant lights above. A moody walk-in pantry is visible behind the stove and range hood.
Double islands in this transitional gourmet kitchen provide prep area and a welcoming dining space. Dark brown wood on the islands contrast against the white Shaker cabinets around the perimeter of the kitchen. Calacatta Vagli marble countertops bring sophistication to the room.
Pink Chinoiserie Chairs, Area Rug Enliven Eclectic Dining Room
Let it be known that pink accents can work wonders in a formal dining room. Here, two pink chairs instantly brighten the neutral walls -- though their Chinoiserie-inspired print ensures that they still look sophisticated -- while a saturated pink area rug brings some warmth to the hardwood floors.
Gorgeous Modern Living Room With a Patterned Wool Rug
Wool rugs — such as this one from Lulu and Georgia — provide an unbeatably soft surface for children to play on, and their repellent quality provides some protection from spills and stains. These rugs also have plenty of longevity if you're looking for an investment rug.
