Sophisticated Living Room Where Colors and Textures Abound
Completely unexpected yet totally gorgeous in its design, this living room is awe-inspiring. Anchoring a section of the room is a large contemporary painting in blues and greens that draws the eye not only to its effect but also to the textures, colors and styles that surround it.
The minimal foundation sits within the footprint of the previous house, while the upper floors cantilever off the foundation as if to float above the front entry water feature and surrounding landscape.
The entrance of this home is reminiscent of a the gates surrounding an ancient dynasty. Strong and elegant, the gates of this home certainly set a tone of grandeur. Included in this beautiful view is a piece of custom designed cast glass. It is visible from the Zen Garden on the other side and glows in the sunlight, furthering the grand feeling of this home.
The living room has spectacular views of the waterways. The windows extend to the ceiling as a way to increase the airy feeling of the space and to take in as much daylight and view as possible. The low-slung furnishings and cool colors enhance this effect.
A large 4' x 6' picture window draws your eye to the view just outside this contemporary kitchen. The window is set in a slate stacked-stone accent wall, the striking interior complementing the equally striking outside view.
The renovation exposed existing wood shiplap walls and the brick of the chimney, which were left in place to give character to the interior. Various traditional pieces and an oriental rug help tie the design together.
A large, open doorway makes this small kitchen appear spacious, while a centered island allows movement throughout the space. Wicker barstools line the tall side of the island, and a lower end creates extra prep space. Open shelving opens up the room while keeping dishes organized, and a distressed wall finish completes the look with a charming country feel.
You would never know that this fabulous walk-in closet was created from an outdoor storage room. An exterior door and window were closed and removed to allow space for custom built-in shelving, providing ample room for clothing, shoes and jewelry. The light from the sparkling hanging fixture bounces off a shimmery petal pink ceiling, while glass shoe shelves mounted in front of pink damask wallpaper provide a beautiful focal point. The custom-designed full-length mirror and the sconces flanking it stand out in front of the horizontal striped wallpaper.
