After: The outdoor kitchen and dining area are part of the space, enabling the cook and guests to view the fireplace and converse. Seat walls flanking the fireplace provide additional informal seating.
Colorful patio cushions, a new ceiling fan and light gray curtains create a bright, breezy destination for outdoor dining. Next to the dining space, a casual seating area awaits for after-dinner drinks.
Private Backyard Spa Area With Tropical Landscaping
Designer Jeff Troyer remodeled this outdoor spa area, raising and tiling the pool and adding a waterfall. After the landscaping was thinned out, a seating area was created above the blue-tiled pool and hot tub.
As seen on HGTV and DIY Network's Elbow Room, the Jackson residence in Atlanta, GA is now fully equipped for outdoor entertaining and play area for the kids after the backyard renovation by licensed contractor Chip Wade and his team. Renovations included a new outdoor entertaining/grill area, a trampoline, fire pit and seating area for guests, landscaping, and tumble mat for their three daughters.
Tranquil Outdoor Lounge With Adjacent Al Fresco Dining
Extending outward from the home creates an outdoor, covered lounge area perfect for relaxing after meals in the al fresco dining space near the pool. The massive patio space continues use of the home's neutral tan and taupe palette, working in tandem with numerous seating options to create a resort-like atmosphere.
Transitional Deck With Plush Sofas and Contemporary Fire Pit
The uniquely designed outdoor sofas fit right in with the natural twisting tree limbs surrounding this California living space. Floating on a curved design, facing sofas give everyone seated access to the contemporary fire pit, providing a connection with the encompassing landscape long after the sun has set.
After a few cocktails and plates of food, your guests will want to rest and take a seat. Proper seating is essential for any party. Don’t be afraid to pull your chairs from inside. These leather chairs are from my office and are comfortable and match the color scheme. If you are feeling adventurous, add a small couch or love seat from your living room to create distinct and comfortable seating options for your guests. If your chairs need protection, fabric covers are a solution that can upgrade your current pieces while also keeping them clean while outdoors.
Outdoor dining is typically a casual affair—but it doesn’t have to be. Surprise and delight your guests by setting an outdoor table with all the hallmarks of an indoor dinner party: masses of candlesticks, beautiful florals, and your favorite crystal. Encourage lingering over after-dinner coffee by adding soft cushions to the seats, and providing throws for added warmth on chilly evenings.
Outdoor drapery helps blur the lines between indoor spaces and exterior porches filled with upholstery, swings and places for lazy napping next to the saltwater pool, all keeping a fresh, clean and neutral palette. And after the sun goes down, the party moves to the lakeside fire pit.
Everything is upholstered in Sunbrella, including the outdoor drapery, which all gets a heavy hose-down in advance of every visit. The couple and their guests can nap, lounge, party and relax there. We're told the lake is a jet ski drag strip on the weekends, so good spectator seating!
For retreat areas that you’ll use after sunset, include lighting in your design. Twinkle lights, outdoor lighting, lanterns, candles, solar lights—there’s definitely a light to suit your style. Consider combining different lighting options to give your retreat a dual personality—candles or twinkle lights for intimate gatherings or strings of larger wattage bulbs for entertaining. Built around a tree, this covered rooftop retreat features multiple lighting options, comfy built-in seating and even a bed for Fido. Pets like green spaces, too.
Elevated Deck on the Lake With Swings & Al Fresco Dining
Enjoy al fresco dining on this elevated, lakeside deck. After dining, relax on one of the swings. Many of the residential properties on this lake have a boat dock. The Houghtons bought two lots, making room for a boat dock AND a second "party deck" (this was their wish, in two words!). So HGID designed this as a floating lounge, literally - comfy upholstered seating areas with a huge TV, swimming dock (they're wake boarding fanatics) and wet bar complete with a kegerator (they're fanatical for beer). Everything is upholstered in Sunbrella, including the outdoor drapery, which all gets a heavy hose-down in advance of every visit. The couple and their guests can nap, lounge, party and relax there.
