Open Floor Plan Kitchen Mixes Rustic, Modern Styles
The homeowners were ready to update their 80-year-old home in a historic part of Nashville. The old kitchen was impossibly small and impractical, but Kitchen Cousins Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri remove walls to open up the floor plan, install sleek white cabinets that contrast against the multi-colored tiled backsplash and create a large island with plenty of prep space.
Open Floor Plan Kitchen Mixes Rustic and Industrial Styles
To open up this formerly small kitchen, a wall was removed and replaced with a spacious island that integrates a glass-top range and much-needed cabinetry. Contrasting against the black quartz countertops is a backsplash made from white subway tiles, which extend up to the ceiling. Open shelving with wrought iron brackets provide convenient and attractive display for dishware and accessories.
This rustic open concept kitchen and dining area features a custom wood table with bench, a deer antler chandelier, a breakfast bar Island with repurposed timber used for stools, dark wood cabinets, and knotty pine wall and ceiling paneling.

This whimsically styled modern kitchen features all-over white cabinetry and countertops paired with pops of vibrant color, like the fuchsia hutch and matching toaster. The open plan allows for easy access to a living room area and dining table with a bronze chandelier.
The kitchen island features an integrated, electric stovetop and an elevated wood piece that serves as a platform for snacks. The dining area is conveniently located next to the kitchen and boasts breathtaking views of California.
The bold polka dot wallpaper and custom pop art continue into the adjacent kitchen and dining area. Here, dark wood cabinets provide a rich contrast to the white walls, while recessed and pendant lights ensure that the room is well-lit for meal prep.
