The refrigerator was tucked out of view from the living room, and the oven was pushed to the far end to allow as much continuous counter space as possible. A contrasting finish for the island cabinets were chosen to be more furniture-like. New doors lead out to the backyard’s screened-in porch.
The Klingshirns wanted a practical functional space to replace their closed in dysfunctional kitchen in their older home. Chip Wade and his crew from HGTV's hit show Elbow Room removed several walls to open up their space and added modern conveniences such as new appliances and more work space.
The updated layout of this kitchen includes a desk area and a concealed laundry space with front-loading washer and dryer, on the right. The countertop above the units can serve as folding space or as a buffet table during parties.
As seen on HGTV's Love It Or List It, Too, Designer Jillian Harris modernized this west coast home by removing a pillar that sat in the middle of the entrance. She painted the walls with Behr Cotton Knit and installed engineered hickory hardwood flooring with Tremblant stain. The kitchen entrance was removed and the pantry and office desk area were closed in to create the laundry room. The Ceasarstone kitchen countertops, London Grey and Stone Grey, were extended along the back wall. Jillian removed another pillar in the centre of the kitchen and modernized the existing island with clean straight lines. Jillian completes the kitchen with Antique Imperial Mist subway tile for the backsplash.

Belonging to one of the owner's grandfathers, the kitchen on this 1950s home had a small kitchen that was awkwardly configured and separated from the rest of the house, so designers from America's Most Desperate Kitchens removed the walls closing the space in and replaced the outdated design with an elegant, sophisticated one.

By removing three of the kitchen's walls, designers opened up the kitchen to the rest of the home. Now, whoever is preparing a meal or enjoying one at the breakfast bar can be included in the action in the rest of the home.
