Open and Bright Bedroom is Contemporary
Glossy dark brown hardwood floors ground this sophisticated bedroom. Trellis-patterned wallpaper makes a bold statement behind the tufted upholstered bed. A bombe chest is used as the nightstand, adding a burst of earthy green to the room.
An upholstered platform bed is flanked by two sleek, contemporary nightstands in this coastal bedroom in Miami Beach. An open bookshelf is the perfect spot to display favorite accessories, and a sliding glass door opens up to balcony for chic outdoor space.
Sleek white cabinets and countertops are accented by brass hardware that adds a touch of glam to this contemporary kitchen. A wall of window bathes the kitchen in natural light, while the black window frames add striking contrast.
The new owners of this five year-old single-family home in the Ukrainian Village area of Chicago sought a more expansive, casual and contemporary feel. Being a professional chef, the husband found the existing kitchen stifling and wanted to infuse it with light, efficiency and room to move.
By eliminating the wall separating the kitchen and the living room, the design allows natural light to flow in. The sleek new finishes and lighting in the kitchen, along with the modern cabinetry, stovetop and hood, achieve a more contemporary feel. The bold transformation creates an expansive new space that is easy and bright, inviting a chef to casually create and family and friends to join in the fun.
Clean lines and state-of-the-art equipment make this kitchen the refined core of the homeowners' entertaining. Warm wood cabinets contrast against the sleek, gray cabinets for a contemporary yet sophisticated space.
The vertical fireplace is a break from traditional design, creating a chic juxtaposition with the 19th-century English portrait above. A sisal area rug defines the sitting area, which features a custom-designed mohair sofa, linen armchairs and sleek coffee table.
Without upper cabinets, the kitchen has a larger, more open feel. Floating shelves provide extra storage, while a glimmering white tile backsplash adds depth and style to the space. Clean-lined white countertops mix with walnut cabinets for a contemporary look.
A chic grouping of deep metal-framed chairs, a comfortable sectional and a black zig-zag chair surround a cool focal wall with wall-mounted flatscreen TV and sleek black fireplace. To the side of the fireplace is a spot for storing firewood, while all the media equipment is hidden in drawers below the TV.
A cool geometric light fixture brings a graphic element to this contemporary yet airy boy's nursery. A striped area rug grounds the room, while an updated damask wallpaper brings a touch of elegance to the room. The streamlined crib features dark wood, adding warmth to the space.
The contemporary master bathroom takes open concept to the next level. A glassed-in shower sits in the center of the room next to a sleek soaker bathtub. The large double vanity is clad in a black-and-white waterfall countertop, while skylights above allow natural light to pour into the space.
Floor-to-ceiling windows make the outdoors an integral part of this contemporary bedroom design. A platform bedroom is dressed with black-and-white floral bedding, adding a cottage touch to the space, while graphic art brings modern style.
With access to a stunning balcony, this light and airy master bedroom is a welcome retreat. The classic four-poster bed and chaise lounge are placed to enjoy views of the landscape beyond. This exceptional Georgian estate in Bel-Air, Calif., was built in 1929 by architect Paul Williams and recently underwent a complete restoration.
