With new appliances, and cabinets, this kitchen has the rustic modern feel the Altermans were looking for. With all the extra cabinet space, much of the old clutter is gone, and it has a new clean, modern look.
Brio Interior Designs hoped to update the couple's outdated kitchen, so they replaced the kitchen's previous metal shelving with elegant, open wood shelving. Designers added gold colored accent pieces to the countertop to accent the rich tones in the wood shelving, creating an elegant, modern look.
The homeowner's newly renovated kitchen is shown. The wall section dividing the kitchen and dining room has been removed, allowing a straight line of site through the whole first floor. The refrigerator now stands where the old sink previously was, and the old window closed up. A new slightly smaller kitchen island allows the same bar stools to fit comfortably in the narrow room. The sink has moved below the other back window. A clean white color scheme, updated stainless steel appliances and modern overhead lighting create a contemporary feel to the space without changing the room's size.

Todd Davis renovated this 1940s Noe Valley home in San Francisco to open the kitchen up to the adjacent living and dining spaces. A simple skylight lights the interior space while the bold, bright green paint on the back of the cabinetry provides an unexpected burst of color to the sleek look.
The Gaspar's new kitchen has been completely transformed with new cabinetry, appliances, and wood flooring. A modern black subway tile backsplash, a wood-framed vent hood, granite countertops and a functional kitchen island were installed. The outdated wallpaper was replaced with light blue/gray paint. The doorway between the kitchen and dining room is now wider, as seen on HGTV's Fixer Upper.
Previously dark and dated, this New York farmhouse now has an open, airy feel and connected floor plan. The designers expanded the kitchen footprint, added windows, increased ceiling heights and opened up the rooms to create a comfortable flow. This dining room features modern furniture and contrasting trim, creating a fresh, crisp space that connects with the nearby kitchen.

Sleek, modern barstools mix with traditional architectural details in this crisp, clean penthouse kitchen. The kitchen opens into the adjoining living room and benefits from the room's copious natural light. Meanwhile, glossy finishes reflect light and make the small space feel open and airy. Stainless steel appliances echo the polished chrome used in furniture elsewhere throughout the penthouse, unifying the spaces.

Throughout the home's original living room and kitchen, heavy maple cabinetry with thick, floating crown moldings to match made the spaces feel old and outdated to the family, so designers modernized the spaces, giving both rooms a coat of white paint. Then, they gave the original cabinets a facelift, painting the lower kitchen cabinets black for contrast and giving the other cabinets a new white sheen. The cabinets were then rearranged to meet the design vision that created these beautiful, inviting, updated living space.
