Kitchen Gets a Modern Makeover
All new white cabinets and black marble countertops bring a modern look to the kitchen, and two hanging globe light fixtures illuminate the breakfast bar. The new refrigerator is located where shelving once was and a new faucet with an apron sink was installed. The kitchen is surrounded by a beveled subway tile backsplash, and a wooden awning brings color to the kitchen and shades the window overlooking the side yard.
Vintage and antique items can be great alternatives to buying new. They are usually more affordable and definitely give a more unique look to your home. This little midcentury modern bar cart had seen better days when we found her, but with a little elbow grease and a fresh coat of paint, she looks brand new!

The designer removed the drop ceiling to open up the space and added a light gray and white backsplash for a splash of muted color. New stainless steel appliances and a brown ceramic tile floor finish off the overall look.
The kitchen makeover in this early 1900s house required designers to get creative. A downdraft range under the window meant no range hood was necessary. To the left of the range, affordable Ikea cabinets were reconfigured to include an appliance garage.

Colorful Modern Tile Backsplash in a Bright Coastal Kitchen
Change up your backsplash. A new backsplash, especially one with a unique tile shape, gives the whole kitchen an instant makeover, such as in this 2016 National Kitchen + Bath Association Design Competition winning space by Cheryl Kees Clendenon of In Detail Interiors. Choose tiles that are on sale or discontinued to save some money, and ask the store to check other locations to make sure you can get as many as you need.
Casual dining gets the luxurious benefit of incomparable views and a white marble eating bar in this open plan kitchen. The design is modern with the focus on the large windows and sleek, efficient feel.
