Open Living Room is Rustic and Contemporary
As a result of flood damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri from Cousins On Call rebuilt this family's living room. Reclaimed wood is used to create a focal wall behind the oversized sectional, as well as an industrial-style coffee table. A neutral palette throughout the contemporary living room keeps the space open and airy.
The line dividing indoors and out literally disappears with the opening of large, custom pocket doors that enclose this rustic-yet-modern living room. The Mediterranean-inspired home is sited to take advantage of the lush outdoor spaces that surround it, while furniture is arranged to take maximum advantage of the beautiful backyard view.
Chip and Joanna, from HGTV's Fixer Upper, have completed renovated this living room, which was once a closed in, disconnected space. Chip moved the wall that contained the fireplace to open up the space and had a new mantle constructed on the outside wall. Joanna brought in rustic touches to create a comfortable, yet sophisticated space for the family to enjoy. The entire space is lit and tied together by a new chandelier that adds an elegant touch to this rustic chic living space.
A parquet wood and metal table is paired with a comfortable, neutral sofa and chair to create a family-friendly, welcoming space. Exposed wood beams add a rustic note to the space, which is full of texture from the throw pillows to the plush area rug.
This stylish contemporary living room features an open-plan design, creating an easy flow from one part of the home to another. Muted earth tones -- the rich brown of the sofa and the pale wood of the wine cabinet -- keep the feeling simple and organic.
This living room, which flows freely from an adjacent open concept kitchen, features blueish gray walls and light hardwood floors, giving the space an inviting feel. A colorful patterned rug adds interest to the chic seating area.
A light color palette makes this open concept living area and kitchen feel bright and open. A tobacco stick chandelier delineates a small dining area in the kitchen, and sailboat artwork in the living area serves as a nod to the apartment's coastal location.
The old, outdated living room with this updated, stylish living room. The couple wanted to blend the natural, rustic style of the cabin and a more modern feel. To make this a reality, they used natural materials such as the leather ottoman and pillows and the wicker storage baskets. They then added modern, open shelving next to the television. With the suede couch, the couple now has plenty of seating.
Open, Transitional Living Room is Rustic, Sophisticated
Exposed weathered beams and floating shelves bring a rustic quality to this open, transitional living room. White furniture creates a neutral base for the space, while a muted blue chair and striped curtains add soft color. A large brass chandelier is centered on the space, and the adobe-style fireplace adds a southwestern feel to the room.
Rich redwood is used for the walls and roof in this two-story expansive living room. A rustic fireplace centers the room, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide plenty of natural light. Three separate seating areas are created for relaxing and entertaining.
This open-concept kitchen and living area has a restful, neutral color palette and a soft contemporary design. Zebra wood on the island adds interest and provides a modern punch. Meanwhile, reclaimed wood shelves offer open storage on either side of a clean, contemporary fireplace. Acrylic chairs in the breakfast room provide a fun pop of color.
The large contemporary living room opens up to a stunning pool. Two long sofas sit opposite each other with a sleek coffee table and white bench between them. All the furniture is kept low so it doesn't distract from the beautiful views beyond.
