Hollywood Glam Bedroom Design
“This room has some really beautiful moments: the bold, striped fireplace commands attention; the combo of zebra, white leather, mirror and crystal set against a moody black backdrop is pure Hollywood glam; simple, two-tone damask patterns add a sense of tradition and comfort that tempers the sharp lines of the very modern wall and floor patterns,” says designer Candice Olson. “However, I think this is a case of both too much and too little. Too many patterns — stripes, checks, zebra and damask — all scream for attention. Undertaking such an ambitious painted floor with very little time prevented Design Star contestants NataLee and Tashica from really finishing this room, and it shows on so many levels, from the shredded bedding to the perplexing mirror/aquarium placement in the fireplace. I would have simply let the striped fireplace graphic be the star; painted the floor white to contrast the black and yellow walls and brought in a large zebra-patterned carpet for interest in the center of the room. This duo's predictable perimeter bed placement reminds me a bit of summer camp — a little more swanky, mind you. I would like to have seen a few beds dressed as sexy daybeds positioned in the center with cocktail tables beside and a spectacular chandelier above, very LA-luxe (in much less time).”
White Basement Bedroom Features Orange Accent Wall
This contemporary basement bedroom boasts an orange accent wall to help brighten the lower-level space. A large window brings in some natural light. A brown leather bed frame is topped with white bed linens, and a wood desk is paired with a modern white chair. A bright blue lampshade adds an extra pop of color.
Grand columns and dignified lion statues flank the entrance to the front porch, offering a sophisticated first impression. Beautiful front doors with wrought iron detailing provide an elegant entry into the home.
Fire Pit and Patio Edged by Koi Pond, Terraced Flower Beds
A cozy patio includes a fire pit and rocking chairs, where family and guests may enjoy temperate Dallas nights. The patio is trimmed by a koi pond and terraced flower beds and is accessible by a slate bridge, lending to its intimate feel.
Lacquered walls and ceiling set a stunning scene in an elegant dining room by interior designer Suzanne Kasler. The dining table and chairs are from her own collection for Hickory Chair, while the chandelier is regal with its crystal tassels. Instead of the traditional tablescape, she used plaster geometric forms purchased at a Paris flea market. The room was in a Southeastern Designer Showhouse in Atlanta.
Arched Doorway Reveals View of Olive Tree, Swimming Pool, California Countryside
The leaves of an olive tree, the swimming pool and the hills of Happy Canyon are seen through this elegant arched doorway at the Figueroa Farms property in the Santa Ynez Valley in California near Santa Barbara. The home sits on 106 acres which include olive tree orchards.
Texas pool designers Pool Environments gut the pool and replace the aggregate concrete with travertine paver in a Versailles pattern. They build a raised spa, one-foot wall and sheer descent waterfalls. The space is opened up by removing a portion of the driveway and adding an outdoor fireplace and seating area.
Transitional White Kitchen With Stunning Vaulted Ceiling
This spacious kitchen features all-over white cabinets that serve as a gorgeous contrast to a gray mosaic tile vaulted ceiling. An elegant chandelier enclosed in a glass cylinder hangs over the kitchen island, while white and light blue upholstered pub-style chairs provide casual dining space.
The bee is the Savannah College of Art and Design's mascot, "a unique icon of industry" says SCAD president Paula Wallace. The bee is also the star of a new organic garden and apiary legacy project and teaching tool at the college where students can learn about a host of relevant topics including garden design; sustainability; use of plants in beauty and fragrance products; the use of beeswax in jewelry-making and painting; and how to dye fabrics using plants. In just about every way SCAD Back40 is the perfect, holistic teaching tool and laboratory for a school perpetually expanding its approach to incorporating real world practices into its curriculum.
When remodeling this bathroom for a client, HGTV Design Star contestant Kellie Clements altered the cabinets in this traditional bathroom by taking out a row of drawers to allow for a makeup vanity and seating.
