Traditional Dining Room with Contemporary Elements
As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It Too, Jillian Harris' overall design for Joyce and Steven was a mix of both their desires. Joyce wanted a timeless design that would stand the test of time and Steven wanted it to be contemporary. Big and open was another wish, so that they could fulfill their entertaining needs. The wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room was removed. The previous walls were all Popcorn Walls, now refinished and painted Silver Drop dining and living room. The Oak hardwood floors throughout the main floor were refinished. There are new casings on all the windows throughout the main floor. Within the dining room are two built-in China Cabinets, white with glass doors that were rebuilt. The ceilings were just above the windows and the greatest design surprise for Jillian was being able to open the space up by vaulting the ceilings.
As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It, the new kitchen is located where the old, small living room previously was. The walls on the first floor have been removed, creating an open modern floor plan with views to both the living room and dining area. Updated kitchen cabinetry, new appliances, a decorative tile backsplash and the elongated central island make the new kitchen the center of life on the first floor. Finally, new window treatments, colorful pillows and updated recessed and pendant lighting give a modern and fun vibe throughout.
Inspired by texture, this charcoal bedroom by B.D. Jeffries Design Group for a Southeastern Designer Showhouse in Atlanta takes a glamorous turn with sleek gold-leaf accents, including the papier mache vessels on the walls. Horizontal stripes and sharp angles add visual interest to the composed, tranquil space.
French doors from the master suite lead to this spacious outdoor seating area. A mix of seating and matching tables are the perfect place to curl up with a cup of coffee or relax at the end of the day with a glass of wine.
Attention to the outdoors continues in the master bathroom, where the shower opens onto a private balcony. Glass doors allow the owners to soak up the views and natural light from anywhere in the room.
Light blue walls work wonders in this teen girl's room, creating a relaxing atmosphere for reading or doing homework. A palm-print tryptic adds interest to the bed, as well as complements the other boho touches, like the woven throw and ombre ottoman.
Low Stone Wall Makes Outdoor Sitting Area Feel Secluded
A low stone wall surrounds this patio, making the space feel intimate for conversations. Meanwhile, willowy trees provide some relief from the hot summer sun and ensure that everyone feels comfortable.
The designers were very careful to pay close attention to Cape Cod style and details when choosing every aspect of HGTV Dream Home 2015’s front yard. Rather than a paved driveway, a traditional pea-gravel drive adds to the home’s New England style.
