Just after the entry but before we get to the living space, is the heart of the home, our kitchen. No compromises were made in this surprisingly expansive kitchen designed by Randy Jones of Incredible Tiny Homes whose motto is "Choose Tiny, Live Free." Not only is there a stained planked wood ceiling, it also houses a full-size refrigerator, range and farmhouse sink. I’m especially drawn to the way the gray upper cabinets compliment the blue lower cabinets against the wood butcher block counters. Last but not least, the ladder takes us to the tiny home master.
In a home located directly opposite the stunning white sand beaches of the western Australian coastline, designer Kristie Hill took a slightly surprising design approach. “Instead of the typical range of blues, we used a warmer pink palette, with pink bedding and accessories in the master bedroom. It helps counteract the dominant timber cladding behind the bed, for a look that is neither feminine nor masculine,” she says. Tip from the designer: “Don’t use too much of the same hue of pink. Change it up a little, Blush pink works beautifully with mustard yellow and emerald green, too.”
Actress Joely Fisher with her husband and children are surprised to find that designer Hillary Thomas has even decorated their pool for Christmas! Fun and brightly colored floating ornaments and even a floating Christmas tree invite the family outside after the reveal of their living room holiday makeover, as seen on HGTV's Celebrity Holiday Homes.
This bright red, eclectic bathroom is full of unexpected surprises! A gold birdcage covers a mirror that sits over a pretty, shabby chic dresser with a built-in sink creating a fun, one-of-a-kind space.
Used above white wainscoting, metallic wallpaper adds a hint of glamour to this sitting room. A white chaise invites guests to recline next to a stack of coffee table books, while a cowhide rug adds an unexpected surprise underfoot.
Contemporary White Kitchen with Blue Cabinets and Bay Window
Blue cabinets are an unexpected surprise in a kitchen. Here, they establish the sole, vibrant color scheme. This contemporary space also features elements of traditional style and country warmth, such as the basin farmhouse sink, open shelves and tile floors.
The Palazzo, a 200-year-old mansion located in Rabat, Malta, boasts 10,700 square feet of living. In one hallway, an impressive contemporary chandelier is paired with bright red chaise for an unexpected touch among the traditional furnishings.
Everyone loves little surprises during the holiday season. Here's an easy advent calendar switch up - instead of taking something out, put something in! Little bits of unexpected greenery tucked into each drawer help to create a more beautiful mantle as the holiday approaches.
Copper Cabinetry Offers Unexpected Touch in Elegant Contemporary Kitchen
Surprising yet delightful material choices elevate the style in this understated kitchen in a home in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico. Copper cabinetry form the base of a kitchen island topped with a thick slab of exotic wood. Geometric-print cement floor tiles tie together the black cabinetry and cream-colored subway tile backsplash.
This powder room adds surprise and drama with artfully arranged hanging pendants and asymmetrical plumbing. The custom cabinets, created with two veneers, and the onyx stone countertop also contribute to the unexpected.
Bring an element of surprise to your tabletop with unexpected flatware. Instead of disposable styles, choose unique finishes and materials that give your design one-of-a-kind appeal. Here, an antique set of polished brass flatware adds a touch of warmth to a generally cool palette.
