Though the open, two-story dining room in HGTV Dream Home 2015 is breathtaking, that openness can sometimes negatively affect the room’s acoustics. Luckily, interior designer Linda Woodrum knew just how to alleviate that issue. “When you have a tremendous amount of volume, you’re looking for ways to help with acoustics,” explains Linda. “So the more fabric you get in the room, the more you help with acoustics.”
The dining room branches out with benches that can be used around the table or as standalone seating in the sitting room. Whimsical wallpaper adds a bold layer of color to the space and helps tie the two areas together.
Modern Gray Dining Room with Black Dining Table with Red Dining Chairs and Benches
This crisp, distinct and striking dining area is at once simple and complex. Simple in that very few items appear in the space. Complex in that the design elements are chosen to stand out while also coming together as a lovely whole. The red dining chars add a punch of color in the otherwise black-and-white themed space.
To give the HGTV Dream Home 2015 dining table a cozier look, a plush bench sits in for traditional wooden chairs. “We did a banquette that’s upholstered, which could accommodate three children and even three adults,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.
Cottage Dining Room With Whitewashed Table & Benches
Whitewashed furniture brings a charming elegance to this dining room featured on HGTV's Design Star. Centered on a neutral area rug, the dining table includes two painted benches. Hardwood floors and paneled walls complete the casual, cozy look.
Benches have a more informal and inviting vibe than the usual set of chairs, plus you can fit extra guests. It’s OK if the wood finishes don’t match—they’ll blend just fine. If you want to pair an upholstered bench with upholstered chairs, stick with equally rich shades, like these yellow and blue jewel tones. Find upholstered kinds with turned legs from Wisteria or get them secondhand. The diamond-print fabric on this one is by Perennials. (Room design by Jenn Feldman Designs)
In the dining room, an earthy, organic feel is achieved with a beautiful wooden dining table and woven chairs. The neutral palette allows room for the bold centerpiece with its bright green leaves and pink flowers.
