Designer Karen Swanson of New England Design Works used found plywood to create unique walls that resemble shiplap siding. A stunning round chandelier with Edison bulbs is a charming edition to the room.
One of the goals of this New England home's landscape design was to connect the outdoor spaces harmoniously to the natural surroundings. Here, vines grow in a playful design and twin armchairs look out over a meadow-like garden.
This fire pit tries to recreate the campfire setting on a New England lakefront property designed by YardApes, based in Connecticut. The stacked stone, pebble floor and handiwork in the design of the wood chairs creates an inviting entertaining spot.
A covered round fire pit creates a cozy spot to view this lovely New England property designed by YardApes, based in New Milford, Conn. Owner Shayne Newman says a fire pit offers a spot for a family to be together instead of separated by TV and technology.
The HGTV Dream Home 2015 front entrance features a covered portico with two classic columns. “Because of New England weather, you don’t want to be standing out at your front door as the rain comes down,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.
The HGTV Dream Home 2015 great room is a light, open space with a classic neutral color palette. “The great room structure is that new modern way of living, which would not have happened in New England,” explains interior designer Linda Woodrum. “There would have been small, dark, boxy rooms, but we all know that we are living in this new way where there is this wonderful open space.”
“When you live in New England, and you’re outdoors all the time, I don’t think people worry about cool weather because they’re pretty hardy,” explains HGTV Dream Home 2015 designer Linda Woodrum. “I think this is a patio that will get a lot of use.”
Why waste space with plain hallways when you can add attractive, custom-built bookcases like this one, designed by Stacy Jacobi. Her design style has been described as “New England Coastal went to Hollywood,” and we think this bookcase demonstrates that perfectly. Jacobi had the bookcase handmade by Mark Blaire, who used simple unfinished pine with glass panes, then painted it with Benjamin Moore high-gloss White Dove paint.
A vaulted ceiling accented by beadboard and rustic beams draws the eye up and adds a charming cottage feel to the HGTV Dream Home 2015 master bedroom. According to interior designer Linda Woodrum, the chandelier is meant to add a feminine touch. She says, “New England tends to be sort of practical and matter of fact. Everything in here is pretty tailored, and we just wanted to put one little thing in here that was a little bit different – just to have some fun.”
