Contemporary Dine-In Kitchen With Dark Cabinetry
This sleek and spacious kitchen achieves ultimate style with smooth finishes and a clean design. Dark wood cabinets are contrasted with light hardwood floors and white countertops. A timeless wood dining set is decorated with small plants for a simple yet elegant look.
Beyond offering a place to mix drinks, a wet bar can play an important design role in a home with an open layout, linking the kitchen workspace with the entertaining areas of the house. Here, designer Amy Darooge used rustic materials to create a coherent style throughout. She chose distressed wood cabinetry, a copper sink and faucet, and “the material on the counter is walnut with a live ledge,” she says.
A wallpaper accent wall brings elegance into this bedroom. Designers Cate Dunning and Lathem Gordon of GordonDunning suggest layering a duvet and coverlet for a more luxurious look, and having one “boom-pow” statement pillow can make a big style difference, too.
Fireplace Focal Point with Effortless Tile and a Family Heirloom Painting
To update the fireplace, designers replaced the original hearth tile with tile that feels effortless, as if it had been there forever. To make the feature special to the homeowners, it features a family heirloom painting that completes the design's natural feeling for the family.
Contemporary Black and White Bedroom with Metallic and Geometric Accents
Pile on the pattern. Here, Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily layers decorative boxes, a lamp and geometric-shaped accessories for a chic, upmarket result. Group patterns by style, shape and function for added effect.
After: Tiffany Blue Teen Bedroom with Daybed and Piano
A bold wall color, reminiscent of Tiffany blue, is one of the most inexpensive ways to start off a bedroom makeover, says Atlanta designer Jennifer Foster. The room now has a sophisticated playful style, with a daybed from a home decor store that makes room for a baby grand piano passed down from a grandmother. The lamps also are off the shelf from a discount home goods store.
To create an architectural element worthy of a luxury hotel, Atlanta designer Rachel Greathouse started with a $30 mirror at a flea market. She painted the four-paned frame in a gloss that matched the wall color, and then hung the mirror at a 45 degree angle for an interesting visual effect. From its place above the bed, the mirror can appear like a diamond-shaped window because it reflects the windows on the opposite wall.
Midcentury Modern Dining Room With Bold Blue Chairs
This stylish dining room features plush, bright blue chairs that surround a spacious glass dining table. Two metal starburst chandeliers hang from the exotic wood plank ceiling, while a neutral stone wall adds a natural accent. A floating cabinet provides ample room for stowing dishes and other dining room items.
After: Gold Guest Bedroom Makeover with Slipcovered Headboard
Gold is a regal choice that demands attention in this once-overlooked guest bedroom. Glass and antique brass side tables give the room a more modern look, and are topped with lamps from a discount home store selected by Atlanta designer Jennifer Foster. A streamlined slipcovered headboard offers flexibility for future makeovers.
To give the homeowners an additional seating option in their master space, designers brought in a pair of Boho chairs and coffee table for the master bedroom. To make this area more comfy, they added a faux animal skin rug for a soft touch.
Bright, Open Living Room Offers Stunning Water Views
A neutral color palette with crisp white furniture and rich brown accents creates a bright, tropical feel perfect for this bay-front living room. Tall ceilings and large windows help with the open, breezy atmosphere — and the breathtaking bay view doesn't hurt either.
Black, White and Neutral Bedroom With Lush Furnishings
Sink into this clean, comfortable bedroom at the end of a long day and you're sure to feel relaxed almost immediately. The symmetrical look of the space — matching end tables and globe lamps are situated on either side of the room — adds to the visually soothing feel. Funky pillows and a faux fur throw add a modern element to the space, and the black accent wall makes the white elements in the room pop.
Beautifully Bright Yellow Country Living Room in New York
Natural light floods this spacious living room highlighting the bright yellow walls and mix of furniture providing ample seating to enjoy this welcoming space. Plush white sofas work perfectly with the white fireplace surround and column.
Master Bathroom: Bayfront Mediterranean Villa in Naples, Fla.
A luxurious soaking tub with a marble surround is the ultimate place to relax and unwind in this master bathroom. Shutter-style doors open up to a private garden, adding to the appeal of this elegant space. Beautifully carved his and hers vanities feature a mirrored storage closet to separate the spaces, and a tray ceiling above the bathtub completes the design.
Black details — the perimeter countertops, cabinet hardware, oven and window frames — pop against the fresh white cabinets and backsplash in this stylish kitchen. The island features a striking gray marble countertop for additional contrast and interest.
