Commercial Garage Converted to Chic Living Room
It’s hard to imagine now, but this charming living space was once an unassuming commercial garage. To make the most of the compact, 1,260-square-foot space (including an upstairs loft area), Frazier Associates minimized the number of walls within. Exposed brick walls and concrete flooring on the first floor were retained and a new staircase, crafted of reclaimed wood and metal railing, was designed for access to the second floor. "Providing more natural light was the biggest design challenge," say the designers. "A new recessed patio was designed behind the historic garage doors to allow for more light on the first floor, as well as to create a front entrance and a small exterior seating area."
To help with the look of the beach house theme in the Miller family's home, sea glass tile fills the walls of the new bathroom, along with a new modern sink and cabinet. As seen on HGTV's "Cousins On Call".
Natural light reflects off of the soft gray cabinets in this lovely farmhouse kitchen. Wide-planked wood floors create beautiful contrast against the light cabinets, while a simple window shade adds to the room's classic charm.
The kitchen tucks into a corner of the main floor, offering high-end appliances and crisp, clean style. The white walls, marble countertops and pale wood details maintain a feeling of airy openness throughout the room.
The reading room features boxy armchairs and a graphic area rug. Books organized by color adds visual interest to the bookshelf, while a burst of yellow from the abstract painting strikes a cheerful note.
