The living room at the front of Dennis Gupta and Marie Amato's current home in Valhalla, New York, is modern and sophisticated with size-appropriate furniture, classic curtains and a patterned area rug. A multi-layered glass coffee table provides storage with a low profile.
A little color and pattern goes a long way in this Tudor-inspired living room. A charcoal sectional is topped with colorful and textural throw pillows ranging from ikat to flokati. Rich purple accent chairs tie in the contemporary area rug and offer a subtle pattern of their own.

Designers used the Flor carpet squares as a jumping off point for the space's color, bringing in a gray sofa and green armchairs to complement the carpet. A gray bench provides additional seating while keeping the room open to the entryway and dining spaces.

Lamps are a necessary item, but an area where Atlanta designer Devon Garner believes you can save money. Her client liked a pair of unique-shaped lamps that cost $800 each and would need to be special ordered, but Garner found these new at a home discount store for less than $60 each.
All major elements like the dining setting and sofas were deliberately kept very neutral to instill a calmness. The balcony setting was painted blue to draw your eye towards it. The mirror and sideboard were hand painted in a primary green to complete the color wheel offering.
