Interior Sight Lines Create Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living
Designers were careful to blend the indoor and outdoor spaces by taking advantage of sight lines from the home's interior design. The plants in the front courtyard and the back yard can be seen from the living room, kitchen, bedroom and hallways. Here, a sculptural cactus provides a backdrop for art inside the home.
This living room starts with a basic brown sectional (its clean lines help it feel modern), then layers in desert accents like photos of succulents and pillows with Southwestern prints. A black and white rug is a final snappy touch.
Three-dimensional wall art goes a long way if you’re working with lots of blank space, and the plush variety is so fitting for a nursery. To achieve a more playful feel, mount a stuffed animal head above your crib. Thanks to the internet, you can find just about any animal you’d want – from a deer to a flamingo to a unicorn. For a more modern look, mount a plush geometric shape, like the edgy, black-and-white rain cloud here. Or, do both, like designer and stylist Live Loud Girl. You really can’t go wrong when it comes to fun, pillowy wall art.
The hip black and white look of this barrel cactus cut and placed on alternating black sand and table salt is made even more dramatic with the addition of vertical porcupine quills. "Pour one mound of table salt across each side of the glass cube. Layer black fine grained sand on top. Repeat. Layer with white aquarium pebble before placing cactus," says Anne Gunnels of Honey + Gunn Succulents. The table design is by @pleasebeseatedrentals.
Outdoor Fire Torch
Fire pits can provide intriguing sources of light at night but there are other alternatives such as the Desert Steel Saguaro Cactus Torch which is 25 inches wide and 78 inches tall and definitely qualifies as garden art.
Faux Cattle Head and Colorful Pillows Decorate Concrete Patio
Include a few standout pieces in your outdoor decor. This faux cattle head acts as a piece of outdoor art when simply leaned against the wall next to some colorful pillows and succulents. A large vintage wooden bowl serves as a faux planter for a cactus.
This large gray sectional fits perfectly on the neutral rug covering the dark hardwood floor in this contemporary living room. Green throw pillows and a textured green floor pillow add a pop of contrast. A unique circular coffee table adds a splash of blue while contemporary wall art compliments the added colors. A large potted cactus is a great decoration for this comfortable room.
