Artistic Touches Across Outdoor Space
Multiple levels of luxurious outdoor living have been created by Ryan Hughes and team in this 10,000-square-foot wonderland of rushing water, blazing light and artistry of tile. As the owners move from one level to the next, they'll easily enjoy spectacular views along the way.
Picture a living room that flows into a colorful, wide-open double terrace, and you'll soon see what Lieve Saether with Turnstyle Interior Design has created. Designed for a couple and their college-bound kid, this stylish outdoor space includes a blue-spotted upholstered bench, a large brown coffee table and an area rug that resembles a watercolor painting.
Add Inexpensive Touches to Dress Up Outdoor Spaces
Furnishing an outdoor room can quickly add up, but using creativity and some elbow grease will save your budget. "Visit flea markets and find inexpensive furniture to paint or otherwise repurpose," designer Lourdes Dumke says. Colorful spray paints are great for plastic furniture and don't require priming. Dress up other pieces with slipcovers and outdoor fabric pillows.
White walls are interrupted only by an accent wall of subtly striated tile behind the fireplace of this contemporary living room. In one corner of the space, a dramatic spiral staircase offers fun and functional access to the second floor. On another wall, a round, colorful painting depicts an abstracted aerial view of the city. Transitional furnishings are neutral, letting the artwork shine.
Integrating indoor and outdoor spaces is beautifully executed in this poolside retreat. An modern-style art installation is featured on the large white wall while a soft, blue sofa is an inviting place to unwind.
A back patio, outdoor grilling area and second-story balcony combine to make an impressive double-decker outdoor entertaining space. A beautiful pergola over the grilling station adds a rustic touch to this charming outdoor area.
Just beyond the outdoor kitchen, the owners and their guests can enjoy an infinity-edge pool and spa area. Lounge chairs allow for soaking up Vitamin D, while copper planters and palm trees provide a touch of privacy.
An oasis tucked into the desert, this Southwestern-style home has everything the owners could ever want: a covered patio, a full-sized pool and a lounge area for sunbathing. Tall cacti layer the landscape, too, for a touch of greenery.
Custom hand-carved stone statues add an artistic element to this outdoor space with swimming pool. A decorative concrete staining technique using acid chemical stains tints the concrete plinths and nearby fire bowls to match the look of the aged statue fountains. Black iridescent glass with charcoal gray grout surrounds the spa that spills into channels and back to pool.
Bistro Lights, Fireplace Illuminate Outdoor Dining Space
At night, bistro lights and a working fireplace cast an enchanting glow across this chic dining space. With a table set for six, the owners and their guests can enjoy dinner al fresco and then head to the fire pit for drinks.
Contemporary Outdoor Living Space Surrounded by Desert Landscaping
Rectangular pavers create a contemporary walkway across the lawn that continues over the sleek swimming pool. A simple iron fence meets safety needs while maintaining a seamless look from the designed outdoor space to the natural landscape beyond.
