A large leather sectional separates the living room from the kitchen and dining area in this open-concept floor plan. A white brick fireplace creates a bright focal point in the room, and break-away orange ottomans provide additional seating. The orange ottomans, valances and accent pillows bring life to this comfortable family room with pops of bold colors that transition easily to the other spaces.
This neutral-toned living room has large windows with valances and curtains, a wooden floor with a patterned area rug, and traditional-style sofa and chairs that encircle a round coffee table. Rich wood furniture contrasts the neutral light fixtures and botanical wall prints while the open windows allow plenty of natural light to compliment the space.
An ornate crystal and gold chandelier adds sparkle to this formal dining room. The space is accented with a richly draped valance above gold window treatments, striped wallpaper and a dark wood dining table and chairs. A red highlight along the ceiling trim adds visual interest while the large bay window provides natural lighting to the room.
A custom canopy and rich drapery panels make the bed the dramatic centerpiece of this luxurious master suite. Certainly a high-end look, a bed crown is a relatively easy project to accomplish. Simply attach a fabric valance to a wooden shelf to create a cornice, then suspend the drapes from a cafe rod mounted within. Design by HGTV fan EastTN2.
Old World elegance gets a contemporary twist in this master bathroom from the HGTV Dream Home 2011. A dramatic view can be enjoyed as one peers through the master bathroom's 5-foot-wide by 12-foot-tall column of glass. The metal chandelier over the bathtub creates a stunning focal point. A Lutron shade, concealed during daylight hours in a custom-constructed spruce pine valance box, can be lowered as privacy demands.
This spacious luxury master bathroom features a large private soaking tub inside a carved-detail wood surround. Ornate columns impart a feeling of royalty while the large picture window allows for plenty of natural light and offers a relaxing view of nature. Intricate molding details coordinate well with the high-end look of the pleated window valances. White accessories and floral arrangements complete the spa-like environment while the cream cabinetry, countertop, and glass pulls of the vanity highlight the special details of the room.
Striped tent valances with red cotton poplin trim and trellis-patterned wallpaper, all from Schumacher, are used in the 2017 Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Homes for the Holidays Designer Showhouse. Atlanta designer Mallory Mathison Glenn said she was inspired by the colors of the French flag and Schumacher’s classic pastoral print, “Plaisirs de Chine,” seen on the pillow sham and duvet. The headboard is vintage faux bamboo and the coverlet has banding in blue. A demilune bench is at the foot of the bed. Mathison Glenn also used a watercolor painting over the bed, an antique French commode and an octagonal mirror in the space.
"Compositionally, I think this kitchen works very well," says designer Genevieve Gorder about this HGTV Design Star kitchen makeover. "The layout is open and inclusive to everyone and everything in the house, which is ideal for families and entertaining. I love the idea of Moorish accents running throughout the space and that there seems to be enough storage that was installed correctly in every corner of the kitchen." But she adds: "Where I think they missed — and missed hard — with this particular design was in the very concept. When I look at this space I'm confused with a folkie valance, a latticework design of Moorish descent on the bar and an almost Victorian/turn-of-the-century pressed-tin backsplash. Overall, I think the space lacks focus; it feels weighted down by too much color and busied by clashing patterns."
