The garage apartment has been transformed into a warm, open concept space. With a gaming area, a living space with a large screen TV, a kitchen and a dining area, this apartment is the perfect space that is perfect for entertaining.
Upstairs, a loft gives the cottage an additional bedroom. The neutral color palette helps to reflect the natural, California sunlight, while the red and blue bed linens give the space fun pops of color, making this a great kids' room.
The upstairs loft living room features cinnamon-colored walls fanned by large hand-stenciled gingko leaves. A set of channel-tufted walnut library chairs in soft chenille fabrics bracket the small chest of drawers, where a bronze sculpture by renowned artist Robert Hooke stands.
It’s hard to imagine now, but this charming living space was once an unassuming commercial garage. To make the most of the compact, 1,260-square-foot space (including an upstairs loft area), Frazier Associates minimized the number of walls within. Exposed brick walls and concrete flooring on the first floor were retained and a new staircase, crafted of reclaimed wood and metal railing, was designed for access to the second floor. "Providing more natural light was the biggest design challenge," say the designers. "A new recessed patio was designed behind the historic garage doors to allow for more light on the first floor, as well as to create a front entrance and a small exterior seating area."
A floating staircase leads upstairs in this contemporary interior design studio to a bright and airy loft. The contemporary black-and-white window seat is the perfect spot to take a break and find a little inspiration.
Upstairs in the mezzanine loft, the wife’s office & creative space features an industrial storage cart, lucite-sided stools, an intense metal sideboard, and a modern desk. A small chandelier brightens the space and offers a touch of glamour.
A loft-like, light-filled bedroom features clean white walls and crisp, geometric lines. Horizontal planks with a rich, dark stain add an organic element to an accent wall. Meanwhile, pale wood floors keep the upstairs space feeling light and bright.
