Each corner of this living room is a treasure for the eyes, with carefully positioned furnishings that accentuate colors in a certain way. For example, the turquoise blue found at the top of the contemporary artwork in the entryway is the exact hue as the stripes of the wing chair in the living room. Likewise, deep orange is seen in the pillow on the chair, the bolster pillow on the bench and the urn on the dining room sideboard.
An unexpected and quirky owl — in the form of a pillow — adds cheer and whimsy to this living space. The unique color combination of yellow and turquoise creates a space that feels bright and retro, while nearby blue-and-white accessories that feel more traditional create a room that's perfectly eclectic.
Jackson Paige Interiors designed this Brentwood home with a contemporary approach but added touches of coastal style throughout the space. This family room, for example, features a soft turquoise wallpaper as an accent wall, complementary sofa pillows, along with a coffee table, end table and art that inspire one to "hit the beach." Especially fetching are the low-to-the-ground occasional chairs that have a cottage-style aesthetic.
A round pedestal table holding an Asian tree is used as a living room divider and is flanked by a large beige sofa and a contemporary seating area with modern turquoise blue arm chairs. Arched window shades cover the large windows above three sets of French doors. The contemporary seating area features a zebra print rug and glass coffee table while both sections are accented with red throw pillows.
This kitchen's crisp, clean white design shows just how much a bit of color can make an impact. Aside from the turquoise chairs and red stools and pillows, the addition of lemons and sunflowers provides a cheery, bright yellow that can be changed out by the day — and those sunny-hued things can be functional, too! In the fall, why not try orange bell peppers paired with chrysanthemums?
There will not be a shortage of conversation around this fabulous dining table. From fun colors to exquisite details this room carries a theme all it's own and does it amazingly. This eclectic dining room features blue walls, traditional white arm chairs upholstered in turquoise blue and white stripes, and a round glass top dining table with orange legs. An upholstered bench with orange pillows and a large multi-sided mirror add to the room.
In the open design of this home, a stylish modern sitting room is situated next to the wood-saturated kitchen. A modern white leather sofa shines with natural light from the large windows on the back wall. A tufted leather chair and neutral shag rug define the perimeter of the area while keeping it open and connected to the rest of the home. A turquoise serving tray and green throw pillows add small pops of color.
Creative Spaces Interior Design crafted this teenage retreat using color and eclectic furnishings for the family room. The turquoise blue of the walls and the cornflower blue of the sofa anchor the space allowing the strong stripe of the room's back wall to take center stage. The room's area rugs, pillows and artwork pick up the colors in the stripes (orange, kelly green, royal blue and yellow) for an overall pleasing effect.
For a family home in Houston, the designers of Laura U Interior Design created a comfortable seating area just off the kitchen. The team used color and accessories to create a cohesive look throughout the wide open area. “While the majority of the color palette is neutral, we weave a lively turquoise through each space: pillows and an area rug in the family, bar stool frames in the kitchen, and a show-stopping chandelier in the breakfast space,” they explain. “The entire space is further unified through the window treatments which are a combination of Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades and custom drapery with a turquoise band on the leading edge. A cheerful yellow and just a dash of orange set off the color scheme while touches of gold and a natural wood (teak root table and driftwood at the island) add eclectic charm.”
As seen on HGTV Design Star, this bedroom was upgraded to a gray contemporary theme. The matching twin beds feature a patterned comforter, slanted gray corner headboard, and turquoise throw blanket for a touch of color. The window seat displays various gray, black and white throw pillows. The room's review on the show stated, "J and Doug have trouble making decisions together from the very beginning, and the result is a poorly executed room. J's headboards are sloppy, leaving judge Genevieve Gorder to say, 'If you're not going to do it well, don't do it.'"
It's the details that really pull a space together, and for this contemporary living room, that's where the personality lies. The gray sofas provide a neutral backdrop for the multicolor pillows and turquoise vases that help to pull the natural light in from the large windows. Another unique touch added to the space is the abstract artwork hanging behind the striped bench. The muted colors in the artwork complement the other colors in the space, tying it all together and making this living room a bright, welcoming place to relax.
